First in the Nation Law Would Require Homeowners to Get Help for Individuals Who Have a Medical Emergency in Their Home

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) has announced that the New York State Senate and Assembly have passed “Steven Kovacs Law,” to help ensure that individuals get the help they need in a medical emergency. The legislation would require homeowners to try and get help if someone overdoses or has a medical emergency in their home.

SENATOR MARTINS ANNOUNCES LEGISLATIVE AGREEMENT ON MEASURES TO ADDRESS HEROIN & PRESCRIPTION DRUG EPIDEMIC

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) announced a three-way agreement between the Senate, Assembly, and Governor Cuomo on legislation he sponsored to address the growing heroin, opioid, and prescription drug epidemic. The legislation will be passed by the Senate and Assembly this week and signed into law by Governor Cuomo when it reaches his desk.

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) announced that the New York State Senate has passed legislation that would enact new protections for women. The bills would ensure women receive equal pay for equal work; prevent employment discrimination against pregnant women and individuals with families; stop housing discrimination against victims of domestic violence; and enhancing penalties for human trafficking.

SENATOR MARTINS STATEMENT ON MOODY’S UPGRADING NEW YORK’S CREDIT RATING

     “Moody’s Investors Service raising New York State’s credit rating to its highest level in the last 50 years shows that we are continuing to head in the right direction.

     Over the last four years, we have passed four on-time, fiscally responsible budgets, cut taxes for residents and businesses, controlled state spending, and made smart investments to grow our economy and create jobs. All of this was done working in a bipartisan manner without raising taxes or fees. The results are undeniable progress which has moved our state forward.

SENATOR MARTINS’ LEGISLATION TO HELP HOMELESS VETERANS PASSED BY SENATE

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) announced that legislation he sponsored to create a Homeless Veterans Assistance Fund to support military servicemen and women who need help with housing has been passed by the New York State Senate. The legislation (S4760A) allows New Yorkers to contribute to the fund when filing their personal income taxes.

SENATOR MARTINS INDUCTS D-DAY HERO FROM GREAT NECK INTO SENATE’S VETERANS HALL OF FAME

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) today inducted D-Day Army veteran Walter Blum of Great Neck into the New York State Senate’s Veterans’ Hall of Fame. Mr. Blum was named to the Senate’s Veterans’ Hall of Fame by Senator Martins. 

     “Like so many of ‘the greatest generation,’ Walter Blum fought for our country and liberated millions from tyranny and oppression. His heroism on the battlefield and his service to his community make him truly deserving of this honor. It is my pleasure to induct him into the New York State Senate’s Veterans’ Hall of Fame,” said Senator Martins.

SENATOR MARTINS VISITS FLORAL PARK TO CELEBRATE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF MY FIRST SCHOOL

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) recently visited Floral Park to celebrate the 50th anniversary of My First School.

     My First School, which is located in the United Methodist Church of Floral Park, is a nursery school program which is dedicated to fostering the academic, social, and emotional growth of young children with an emphasis on parental involvement. My First School has 12 classes serving over 150 children ranging in age from 15 months to six years old.

SENATOR MARTINS & MAYOR STRAUSS CONGRATULATE MINEOLA AARP ON THEIR 25TH ANNIVERSARY

Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) and Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss recently congratulated the Mineola AARP on its 25th anniversary.

Senator Martins thanked the members for their efforts on behalf of local seniors and presented a copy of a legislative resolution he sponsored honoring their milestone anniversary. The legislation was passed by the New York State Senate, ensuring that the Mineola AARP’s 25 years of community service will forever be part of the Senate’s official record.

Unfortunately it makes perfect political sense for them to try to push off the city’s problems and bills on people who don’t vote in the city. The latest grab – our water – and I’m not kidding.

SENATOR MARTINS HONORS NEW HICKSVILLE EAGLE SCOUTS

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) announced that the New York State Senate has passed legislative resolutions he sponsored honoring three members of Boy Scout Troop 382 in Hicksville for attaining the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.

     The legislative resolutions honored Matthew Starks, Vincent Lant, and Matthew Koprowski on earning Scouting’s highest honor. With passage of the resolutions, Matthew, Vincent, and Matthew’s achievements will forever be part of the official record of the New York State Senate.

     Senator Martins attended the Court of Honor held for the three scouts to personally congratulate them.

SENATOR MARTINS JOINS WITH PORT WASHINGTON COMMUNITY AT HARBORFEST

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with the Port Washington community at the annual Port Washington HarborFest.

     Now in its 24th year, HarborFest is a family festival sponsored by the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce which offers a variety of children’s activities, local cuisine, entertainment, educational and informational booths, a craft fair, and cruises on the bay. The festival brings over 12,000 people into the heart of downtown Port Washington.

SENATOR MARTINS: STATE SHOULD CLOSE LEGAL LOOPHOLE SO THAT PATIENTS HAVE MORE CHOICES FOR PRESCRIPTION DRUGS

Legislation Would Prevent Insurance Companies from only covering Mail Order Prescriptions

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) is fighting to close a legal loophole which is limiting residents ability to obtain insurance coverage for prescription drugs. The legislation, of which Senator Martins is a sponsor, would prevent insurance companies from denying coverage for a prescription at a local in-network pharmacy, but providing coverage for the same prescription if it is obtained through a mail order pharmacy, even if it is out of state.
