Senator Jack M. Martins and Senator Lee M. Zeldin held a press conference in Nassau County to announce legislation to repeal the MTA Payroll Tax for all villages, towns and counties. Joining the Senators were numerous elected officials included Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. The legislation result in relief for taxpayers.

Senator Jack M. Martins spoke in support of the Iran Divestmen Act, which was passed by the Senate. It prohibits entities that invest in Iran energy from contracting with the state. The bill was subsequently signed by the Governor.

Senator Jack Martins hosted a day of fun and exercise at the Dutch Broadway School. The annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament was open to students from 5th grade through college. This year there was also a soccer clinic. And high school and college kids were able to participate in 7-on-7 football games.

When the last legislative session began, Governor Cuomo and the Senate decided to enact an important measure to reign in out-of-control property tax increases. With bi-partisan support in the Senate and the Assembly, a 2 percent property tax cap was passed to slow the growth of taxes being imposed on families and businesses throughout the state and especially here on Long Island.

Senator Jack M. Martins appeared on Fox News for a story about teaching 9/11 in schools. Senator Martins is sponsoring a bill that requires schools in New York State to teach lessons about 9/11. The bill would make 9/11 part of the state curriculum for education.

The Summer extravaganza “Martins Classic 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament” sponsored by State Senator Jack Martins is a featured highlight on Cablevision’s “Neighborhood Journal” on Channel 118 throughout the month of August! The show features the 3-on-3 tournament along with interviews and highlights of the Henry Viscardi Cougars versus the Elmont Memorial Spartan’s basketball exhibition!

During the segment, you will see exciting basketball action, commentary and story behind the largest community event in Elmont outside the Belmont Stakes! Over 4,500 people participated in the tournament this year which was highlighted by the New York Knicks and a special guest appearance by John Starks!

On Saturday, July 16, the Elmont community came together for the annual 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament at the Dutch Broadway School. The tournament was a resounding success as volunteers made the day fun for all the participants. The event was sponsored by Senator Jack M. Martins and Senator Dean Skelos.
