Senator Martins Holds Local Governments Roundtable With Village Mayors

State Senator Jack M. Martins, chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Local Government, held a roundtable discussion with some of the esteemed mayors villages within the Seventh Senate District to discuss important issues facing local governments. The panelists included Village of Great Neck Mayor Ralph Kreitzman, who is also the President of the Nassau County Village Officials Association, Village of Kensington Mayor Susan Lopatkin, who is also the President of the Great Neck Village Officials Association, Westbury Mayor Peter Cavallaro and Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss as well as New York Conference of Mayors Deputy Director Barbara Van Epps.

Senator Martins Discusses Hometown Heroes on 'Your Voice' From Albany

Senator Jack M. Martins discussed the bravery of two hometown heroes recently on "Your Voice," an Internet cable show from Albany. Senator Martins recently had the honor of inducting Sergeant Jimmy Regan into the New York State Veterans Hall of Fame. Sergeant Regan was killled during his fourth tour of duty, while serving in Iraq. His courage and sacrifice will never be forgotton.

Senator Martins also dicussed Commander Matthew Nolty, who left for a year-long tour in Iraq. Commander Nolty left behind his wife and children who are all sharing in his sacrifice for the good of our nation.

Senator Martins on 'Your View' From Albany

On the latest edition of "Your View" from Albany, Senator Jack M. Martins discussed the 100th birthday of Dr. Henry Viscardi and the founding of the Henry Viscardi School, making college more affordable, a biil amending the refund policy for LIRR tickets, the Port Washington School District Enrichment Program, the Pizza and Politics program and being made an honorary graduate of the St. Brigid's Our Lady of Hope School in Westbury.

Elmont New Video Commercial is UP!

Check out the new video commercial produced by members of the 3on3 Committee. This year's tournament is getting very exciting and the hype is just beginning.  This year's extravaganza is on July 14th and Dutch Broadway School! Just this past weekend, we had our third tourney committee meeting where we hosted over 230 volunteers and continued preparations for the tourney.

On April 26, the New York State Senate held West Point Day, which provided an opportunity for the Legislature to meet distinguished cadets and officers from the Military Academy and show appreciation for their service. Senate Martins Invites Rabbi White to Deliver the Invocation for the New York State Senate

Rabbi Michael White from Temple Sinai in Roslyn Heights went to Albany with a group of teens from the community to talk to Senator Jack M. Martins about bullying the cyberbulling, which is a major problem facing teens.

"Bullying, in any form, should not be tolerated. It is hurtful and can hamper a student's ability to focus on their studies and hurt self-esteem. It's difficult enough being a teenager without having to be bullied. Those that would bully a classmate need to be made aware of the damage they can cause other families. I want to thank the community for recognizing this problem and raising awareness," Senator Martins said.

Senator Martins invited Rabbi White to deliver the invocation for the April 17, 2012 Session of the New York State Senate.

ON TIME, BALANCED AND NO TAX INCREASE - BUDGET SUCCESS REPRESENTS NEW ERA IN ALBANY

For the second consecutive year, Senator Jack M. Martins and his colleagues in the Senate worked with the Governor to pass an on-time budget that doesn't raise any taxes or fees. At the same time, they closed the budget gap while increasing aid to education and restoring the EPIC program for seniors. The budget success of the last two years sends a clear message that positive change has come to Albany. Years of dysfunction have been replaced by sound fiscal management and government efficiency.

Senator Martins Recognizes the Efforts of Great Neck South, Commack High School Students

On the floor of the New York State Senate, Senator Jack M. Martins entered into the record a resolution honoring Great Neck South High School student John Yang and Commack High School student Kayla Neville for their extraordinary work in studying experimental nanoparticles.

Neville and Yang spent last summer working together, under the supervision of biomedical engineering professor Balaji Sitharaman, at Stony Brook University in a project that was jointly sponsored by the Great Neck Breast Cancer Coalition and the Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition. In the study, the two young scientists injected the experimental nanoparticle into human cells and discovered that the human body could tolerate the material.

Senators Martins and Zeldin Introduce Bill to Eliminate MTA Payroll Tax for All Local Governments

Senator Jack M. Martins and Senator Lee M. Zeldin held a press conference in Nassau County to announce legislation to repeal the MTA Payroll Tax for all villages, towns and counties. Joining the Senators were numerous elected officials included Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. The legislation result in relief for taxpayers.
