Iraqi Boy Given the Gift of Healing Here on Long Island

Four-year-old Zeenabdeen Hadi was given a special birthday gift as doctors of the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group in Garden City will be performing surgeries to repair injuries he suffered after a bomb exploded near his home in Iraq. Bringing this corageous young man here to Long Island represents the care and compassion of Dr. Kaveh Alizadeh, Mission: Restore, the Global Medical Relief Fund and the Ronald McDonald House. Senator Jack M. Martins lent his support and congratulated those who made this miracle happen.

The Bet Between Senator Martins and Senator Fuschillo Is Settled!

Back in March, the Elmont Spartans and Baldwin Bruins boys basketball teams played at Hofstra for the Nassau County Class AA championship. Senator Jack M. Martins, who represents Elmont, challenged his colleague, Senator Charles Fuschillo, who represents Baldwin, to a bet. The loser of the bet would have to have lunch in the winning school's cafeteria. Senator Martins believed strongly that the talented young men that make up the Elmont Memorial High School basketball team would emerge victorious. 

Elmont came away with a thrilling victory and on Friday, April 15, Senator Martins greeted Senator Fuschillo at Elmont Memorial High School. The two Senators had lunch with the Spartans, congratulating them on their championship season.

Senator Martins Helps Save Long Island Bus

Senator Jack M. Martins along with colleagues, Senator Charles Fuschillo and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, saved severe cuts to Long Island Bus by allocating funding from the Senate's MTA capital reserve fund. Senator Martins Backs Measure to Protect Children in Protective Cases

Senator Jack M. Martins is backing an effort to ensure that abused children in protective custody are truly being protected. In a press conference in Albany, Senator Martins and Senator Martin Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) announced they are introducing legislation to require child protective caseworkers to take a photograph when they make a visit to a child in the child protective services (CPS) system for abuse and neglect.

“This proposed bill saves lives, period. This will bring accountability. It’s our responsibility to protect those who are least able to protect themselves. Let’s protect our children first,” Senator Martins said.
