State Senator Jack M. Martins met with Boy Scouts Christopher Kalliagas and Nikolaos Ziozis in his district office to discuss local issues as part of the scouts’ pursuit of their merit badges. Senator Martins was impressed by both scouts as they pursue their goal of becoming an Eagle Scout, the highest level a Boy Scout can achieve. Nikolaos is a resident of Albertson.
Senator Jack M. Martins was honored to be at the Silver Jubilee celebration for Father Raphael Soadwah Church of St. Mary in Manhasset, Fr. Raphael Soadwah was ordained to the priesthood on July 16, 1988 in the Diocese of Konongo-Mampong, Ghana. Congratulations to Fr. Raphael.
Senator Jack M. Martins was honored to have been inducted as a member into the Cellini Lodge #2206 Order Sons of Italy in New Hyde Park. The Cellini Lodge is an active community organization that promotes Italian heritage and community service. Senator Martins felt extremely priviledged to have been invited to join the organization.
On August 6, Senator Jack M. Martins joined with his colleagues in government and community leaders for National Night Out at Bunky Reid Park in New Cassel. National Night Out takes place around the nation as a symoblic way for communities to take a stand against crime.

It will take place from Wednesday, August 14 to Sunday, August 18 at Michael J. Tully Park in New Hyde Park. The hours are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 6-11 p.m.; Saturday from 3-11 p.m., and Sunday from 3-10 p.m. This is a great event that features great vendors and food, rides and community appreciation.

The parade, commemorating India's 66th Independence Day, was held by the Indian American community of Long Island. The India Day Parade (IDP USA) is one of the remarkable historic events on Long Island, bringing together the synergies of more than 100 organizations, to celebrate Pride, Passion and Unity.
Senator Jack M. Martins attended an Eagle Cout of Honor for Plandome Troop 71. The Court of Honor was held in honor of scouts Alex Comerford and Nick Cataldo, who both reached the prestigious level of Eagle Scout, which is the highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve.
Senator Jack M. Martins rooted the New York Cosmos to victory Saturday night as the Cosmos downed the San Antonio Scorpions at Hofstra Stadium. During a stoppage in action, the Senator discussed the game with members of Elmont Soccer who were working as ball boys and girls for the game.
Senator Jack M. Martins recently met with two young filmmakers who are spreading the word about the dangers of bullying and the harm that can come to others. Lelina and Melora Chang are in the best possible position to help since, not only are they both students at Great Neck South High School, but also happen to be the associate producers of a short film entitled, “Strain,” that sends a powerful message about the consequences of bullying.
Lelina and Melora both became involved in the project after their older sister, Yin, an actress who has had a recurring role in the show “Gossip Girl” wanted to write and direct her own film about bullying. “Strain” depicts how two best friends were separated by a school clique and the devastating consequences.
Senator Jack M. Martins was in Williston Park on a recent sunny Sunday for the Williston Park Street Fair. Residents, business and organizations were out in full force as the community celebrated this annual event that features the best of Williston Park. Senator Martins greeted many of his friends from the community on Hillside Avenue.
