Senator Jack M. Martins will be sponsoring a flu shot program on Friday, November 4 at the Port Washington Library. Flu shots will be given out, in conjunction with CVS Pharmacy, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Hagedorn Room. The library is located at 245 Main Street in Port Washington.
According to the New York State Department of Health, getting immunized will protect you from catching the flu, a serious illness that can make you very sick. It will also help protect your loved ones. The best time to receive the flu shot is between early fall and December. The flu shots will be available for those 18 and over.
A bill authored by Senator Charles Fuschillo, Jr. and co-sponsored by Senator Jack M. Martins that enables individuals with autism spectrum disorders to receive insurance coverage for screening, diagnosis and treatment has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The new law will save families with autism tens of thousands of dollars a year in out of pocket costs for autism treatment and therapies which many insurance companies refuse to cover.

Martins will be hosting the New York University College of Dentistry "Smiling Faces, Going Places" Mobile Dental Care Program to provide oral health screenings to children and adults in the Seventh Senate District on Saturday, April 21 from 11 am to 3 pm at the Roberta Nixon Housing, 72 Harbor Homes, Port Washington, New York 11050.
The dental team will provide oral screenings, which include a general inspection of the mouth. No dental treatment will be rendered. At the conclusion of the screening, each patient will receive a "goodie bag" filled with a new toothbrush, toothpaste and oral healthcare information.

The New York State Senate gave final legislative passage to a bill (S7268A), sponsored by that will ensure improved health and safety of pets sold in stores. The Senate took up the bill on New York State Animal Advocacy Day at the Capitol, where legislators and animal advocates network, share ideas, and lobby for stronger anti-cruelty laws.
“Those who purchase cats and dogs though breeding mills or pet dealers should be assured that they are cares for. This legislation helps to protect the health and welfare of animals and their owners,” said Senator Martins.
Dogs and cats that are sold by some pet stores receive inadequate exercise, veterinary care, and protection from the spread of disease.
Senator Jack M. Martins announced that legislation he supported to improve early breast cancer detection has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The new law (S6769B) will increase women’s awareness of the presence of dense breast tissue found during a mammography exam. Dense breast tissue can make it more difficult to detect tumors.

Multiple organizations have agreed to participate and, together with Senator Martins’ office, will provide valuable services to the community.
Senator Jack M. Martins will be partnering with CVS to offer flu shots to constitutents during his Health and Wellness Fair, which will take place on Saturday, October 20, from 1-4 p.m. at Carle Place High School, located at 168 Cherry Lane in Carle Place. Constitutents should bring insurance information if they have it. There will be no out-of-pocket cost.
In addition, the Health and Wellness Fair features numerous organizations that will be previding screenings and demonstrations.
State Senator Jack Martins cooperative effort with Elmont’s Valencia Gym resulted in an outstanding evening of health care education, diabetes awareness and fitness training a few weeks ago. Teaming up with BET’s 106th and Park television show personality "DJ Monumental" and Health Care Advocate Sunny Seward, a special health video seminar was taped in Elmont as part of the ongoing health care initiative aimed at combating diabetes and proper nutrition. Valencia Gym is located on Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont and has been the scene of many community health outreach programs.
