SENATOR MARTINS ON PASSING EQUAL PAY FOR WOMEN

Senator Jack M. Martins spoke in favor of enacted a legislative package for women's equality, saying that as a father of four daugters, equality for women is an issue that is near and dear to him.

The legislative package ensures equal pay for women, strengthens laws against human trafficking, provides greater support and protection for victims of domestic violence, further deters sexual harassment, and ends discrimination of women in the workplace related to gender, pregnancy, and family status.

SENATOR MARTINS ANNOUNCES SENATE PASSAGE OF WOMEN’S EQUALITY LEGISLATION

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) announced that the New York State Senate has passed legislation that would enact new protections for women. The bills would ensure women receive equal pay for equal work; prevent employment discrimination against pregnant women and individuals with families; stop housing discrimination against victims of domestic violence; and enhancing penalties for human trafficking.

SENATOR MARTINS ANNOUNCES SENATE ACTION ON WOMEN’S EQUALITY LEGISLATION

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that the New York State Senate has passed legislation that would enhance the rights of women and protect those who are most vulnerable to abuse and discrimination. The comprehensive package of legislation, of which Senator Martins is a sponsor, would: stop human trafficking; ensure equal pay for equal work; combat sexual harassment in the workplace; end gender discrimination in employment, housing and credit decisions; make reasonable work accommodations available for pregnant women; and provide stronger protections for domestic violence victims.

SENATOR MARTINS STATEMENT ON ASSEMBLY PASSAGE OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING LEGISLATION

     “I am pleased that my colleagues in the Assembly have finally joined the Senate in acting on legislation to protect people from human trafficking. 

     As I have long said, reforms like tougher penalties for human trafficking, measures to ensure pay equity for women, and stronger protections for victims of domestic violence and discrimination should not be tied together. Each of the measures should be considered individually, on their own merits, not held hostage for political purposes. I am hopeful that the Assembly’s action today means that they are joining us in finally putting women first.

SENATOR MARTINS STATEMENT ON ASSEMBLY PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION ENSURING WOMEN RECEIVE EQUAL PAY FOR EQUAL WORK

     “Passing legislation to ensure women receive equal pay for equal work, as well as other important protections for women, was one of the first actions taken by the Senate this year. 105 days later, the Assembly has decided to join us in approving the pay equity legislation. As the father of four daughters and a cosponsor of these bills, I'm pleased they have finally done so.
