SENATOR MARTINS TAKES PART IN VILLAGE OF STEWART MANOR’S MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently participated in the Village of Stewart Manor’s annual Memorial Day ceremony.

     Senator Martins spoke at the ceremony, where he thanked the veterans for their service and paid tribute to all the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who gave their lives in defense of our country.

SENATOR MARTINS: STRONGER PENALTIES FOR DRIVERS WHO KILL OR INJURE SOMEONE WHILE DRIVING WITH A SUSPENDED OR REVOKED LICENSE PASSED BY SENATE

SENATOR MARTINS VOTES TO MAKE THE PROPERTY TAX CAP PERMANENT

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) has voted to make the property tax cap permanent. The legislation, which was passed by the Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support, prevents the planned expiration of the tax cap and continues saving property taxpayers billions of dollars each year.

     “The tax cap has been successful in controlling the growth in property taxes, a game changer for local homeowners. Despite its success, it is set to expire if the legislature doesn’t act. I urge the Assembly to join the Senate in acting on this legislation,” said Senator Martins.

SENATOR MARTINS OBSERVES MEMORIAL DAY WITH FLORAL PARK COMMUNITY

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with the Floral Park community in honoring our American heroes at the Village’s annual Memorial Day ceremony. The ceremony was sponsored by Floral Park American Legion Post 334 and the Village of Floral Park.

     Senator Martins marched in the parade with Mayor Tom Tweedy and the Village Board and served as the guest speaker at the ceremony, where he paid tribute to the over 40 million Americans who served in the military and the over 1.2 million who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.

SENATOR MARTINS CELEBRATES CARLE PLACE’S 100th BIRTHDAY WITH COMMUNITY GROUPS AND LOCAL RESIDENTS

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with the Carle Place Civic Association, community officials, and local residents in celebrating Carle Place’s 100th birthday. Senator Martins attended the opening of the Memorial Day weekend Carnival to help commemorate the milestone. 

     The carnival is part of a yearlong series of events to celebrate Carle Place’s centennial anniversary. The carnival was held on the grounds of the Carle Place Public Schools and featured live music, fireworks, rides and activities for all ages.

SENATOR MARTINS: SENATE APPROVES CREATION OF STATEWIDE REGISTRY OF VIOLENT OFFENDERS

“The Domestic Violence Protection Act-Brittany’s Law” Would Provide Public with Access to Information About Potentially Dangerous Felons 

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that the New York State Senate passed The Domestic Violence Protection Act-Brittany’s Law to increase the safety and awareness of communities by increasing access to information about convicted violent felons. The legislation (S513), of which Senator Martins is a sponsor, would create a publicly accessible registry of all individuals convicted of a violent felony and allow local law enforcement to keep track of their location.

Keep the Tax Cap!

Please join the fight to Keep the Property Tax Cap. 

The property tax cap was enacted in 2011 to help reduce New Yorkers’ tax burden. The cap limits the annual growth of property taxes levied by local governments and school districts to two percent or the rate of inflation, whichever is less. Since 2012, the vast majority of school districts and municipalities have kept spending increases below the cap, leading to significant property tax savings for residents and businesses.

SENATOR MARTINS CONGRATULATES HERRICKS SCOUTS ON EARNING THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently congratulated Luke Cuomo (East Williston), Brendan Duggan (Williston Park), Dominick Giustino (New Hyde Park), and Charlie Mo (Albertson) for attaining the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. The four scouts are members of Troop 201 in Herricks. 

     Senator Martins presented Luke, Brendan, Dominick, and Charlie with legislative resolutions he sponsored, which were passed by the Senate, honoring them for achieving Scouting’s highest rank. With passage of the resolutions, their accomplishments will forever be part of the New York State Senate’s official record.

SENATOR MARTINS VIEWS NEW IMPROVEMENTS AT WILLISTON PARK LIBRARY

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) recently visited the Williston Park Library to view new improvements which were made using $25,000 in state funding. Senator Martins secured the state funding for the Library. 

     Using the funds, the library upgraded technology at the service desks, thereby allowing staff to assist patrons in a more efficient manner. The library also repainted and installed new carpeting in its reading and staff areas.

     “These improvements will enhance the services the Williston Park Library provides to the community. Congratulations to the Library on a job well done,” said Senator Martins.

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District, pictured left) recently congratulated Hicksville residents Michael Italiano (pictured right) and Anthony Minerva (pictured center), members of Boy Scout Troop 382, for attaining the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.

Measure Would Prevent the September 11th Worker Protection Task Force Act From Expiring Next Month

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that the New York State Senate passed legislation to continue the September 11th Worker Protection Task Force Act for another five years and help those who have been afflicted with a disability as a result of working at the World Trade Center and other sites. Senator Martins supported the legislation in the Senate to enable the Task Force to continue its work past the current authorization date of June 10, 2015.

SENATOR MARTINS CONGRATULATES HERRICKS STUDENT FOR EARNING FIRST PLACE IN SENATE’S EARTH DAY POSTER CONTEST

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently visited Denton Avenue School in New Hyde Park to congratulate 5th grade student Lamiya Rangwala on being chosen as a first place winner in the Senate’s Earth Day Poster Contest. 

     Lamiya’s entry focused on the importance of “reducing, reusing, and recycling” in order to protect the environment. As a first place winner, Lamiya’s poster was displayed in the State Legislative Office Building in Albany along with those of the other winners from across the state.

SENATOR MARTINS VOTES TO REAPPOINT PORT WASHINGTON RESIDENT TO NEW YORK STATE COURT OF CLAIMS

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently voted to confirm Port Washington resident Alan Honorof for reappointment to the New York State Court of Claims. Judge Honorof was nominated for reappointment by Governor Andrew Cuomo and confirmed by the New York State Senate.

     Judge Honorof has been serving on the Court of Claims since 1996. Prior to his initial appointment, Judge Honorof had an over twenty year career as a litigator, both in private practice and as an Assistant District Attorney in the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office. Judge Honorof received his Juris Doctor from Temple University School of Law.
