Legislation Would Increase Access to Information About Successful and Innovative Programs Across the State

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that the New York State Senate has passed legislation to help assist and support individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The bill (S3968), which Senator Martins supported, would create a dementia and Alzheimer’s disease program database to help coordinate resources available to patients and caregivers.

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with students and staff at Floral Park-Bellerose School in celebrating Flag Day at the school’s annual Flag Day Ceremony.

     The Ceremony is an annual celebration where students learn about, and pay tribute to, the American Flag.

Urge Passage of Bill to Continue Investment in Restoring the Long Island Sound

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in calling on Washington to pass legislation that would continue federal investment to restore the Long Island Sound. The two Senators, together with other local elected officials and environmental leaders, made the call for action at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington.

SENATOR MARTINS WELCOMES MINEOLA RESIDENT TO THE STATE CAPITOL

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently welcomed Mineola resident David Rodriguez to the State Capitol.

     David, a John Jay College student pursuing a degree in Forensic Science, is part of the College’s Program for Research Initiatives in Science and Math (PRISM). Members of the program came to Albany to be recognized by the Senate during a recent legislative session.

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with Troop 71 in Manhasset to congratulate Vincent Tomaselli, Peter Boyadjian, and Garrett Byrne for attaining the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. 

     Senator Martins presented Vincent, Peter, and Garrett with legislative resolutions he sponsored, which were passed by the Senate, honoring them for achieving Scouting’s highest rank. With passage of the resolutions, their accomplishments will forever be part of the New York State Senate’s official record.

Legislation Would Designate April 19th as New York’s Presidential Primary Date to Respect the Religious Observation of Passover

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that The New York State Senate passed legislation designating April 19th as the date for New York’s 2016 presidential primary. The legislation (S5958), which Senator Martins cosponsored, would prevent the election from taking place during the observance of Passover.

SENATOR MARTINS: PORT WASHINGTON EAGLE SCOUTS HONORED BY STATE SENATE

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) announced that the New York State Senate recently passed legislative resolutions he sponsored honoring four Port Washington residents for attaining the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.

     The legislative resolutions honored Vincent Deriu (Troop 7), Bryan Johns (Troop 7), Justin May (Troop 241), and Nicholas Moy (Troop 241) for earning Scouting’s highest honor. With passage of the legislative resolutions, Vincent, Bryan, Justin, and Nicholas’ achievements will forever be part of the official record of the New York State Senate.

SENATOR MARTINS ATTENDS VISION LONG ISLAND’S SMART GROWTH AWARDS CEREMONY

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently attended Vision Long Island’s Smart Growth Awards Ceremony. Senator Martins is a past recipient of Vision Long Island’s Smart Growth award, which he earned as Mayor of Mineola for developing the Village’s first ever comprehensive master plan.

     Senator Martins thanked the members for supporting legislation he sponsored that would help small businesses create and retain jobs during times of hardship. The legislation was recently passed by the New York State Senate.

SENATOR MARTINS JOINS WITH FLORAL PARK FIRE DEPARTMENT IN PAYING TRIBUTE LONGTIME FLORAL PARK FIREFIGHTER

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with the Floral Park Fire Department in paying tribute to the memory of a devoted Floral Park firefighter and his over four decades of community service.

     The Department dedicated the new ambulance in memory of firefighter Joseph Reekie, Sr. Mr. Reekie served the Floral Park community for 45 years as a volunteer firefighter and EMT. Senator Martins took part in the dedication ceremony, which was held at Floral Park Fire Department Headquarters.

Legislation Would Give Schools Flexibility to Provide Busing in Special Circumstances Where a Parent is Physically Unable to Take Their Child to School

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that the New York State Senate passed legislation he sponsored to help children whose parents have a physically limiting disability or other special circumstances. The legislation (S248B) would give school districts the authority to provide transportation for these children even if they live below the transportation mileage limit.

SENATOR MARTINS HONORS CHAMINADE HIGH SCHOOL’S CHAMPIONSHIP BASKETBALL TEAM

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently congratulated the Chaminade High School Varsity Basketball Team on winning the NSCHSAA Class A Long Island Championship. 

     The team, which finished the season with an overall record of 19-9, captured the Championship with a 57-38 victory over Kellenberg Memorial High School. It was the Flyers’ second Long Island championship in the last three years.

     Senator Jack M. SENATOR MARTINS’ “AMERICAN MADE FLAG ACT” PASSED BY SENATE

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that the New York State Senate has passed his “American Made Flag Act” legislation. The legislation would require all American flags used by the State and local governments to be 100 percent made in America.

     “The American flag is one of our most sacred symbols; people have died protecting it and everything it stands for. We should not be buying that symbol from another country with our taxpayer dollars. This legislation would ensure that state and local tax dollars are used to support American workers and businesses when they use American flags,” said Senator Martins.

SENATE PASSES SENATOR MARTINS’ LEGISLATION GIVING PARENTS MORE OPTIONS TO GET SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT FOR TEENS

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that the New York State Senate has passed legislation he sponsored to strengthen parents’ ability to get their children substance abuse treatment. The legislation addresses a problem under current law in which parents are often forced to make the difficult choice to have their child arrested in order to keep them in treatment.
