SENATOR MARTINS ANNOUNCES NEW LAW TO HELP HOMELESS VETERANS

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) announced that legislation he sponsored creating a Homeless Veterans Assistance Fund to support military servicemen and women who need help with housing has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The law allows New Yorkers to contribute to the fund when filing their personal income taxes.

SENATOR MARTINS HONORS HICKSVILLE’S NEWEST EAGLE SCOUT

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently honored Nolan Mingst of Hicksville for attaining the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. Senator Martins attended the Court of Honor to personally congratulate Nolan, a member of Boy Scout Troop 3211, on earning scouting’s highest honor.

     “Nolan has spent years serving his community and working hard to achieve something only a select few ever do; the rank of Eagle Scout. Making this achievement even more special is the fact that Nolan is only a sophomore in high school. The entire community is very proud of Nolan and we congratulate him on earning this very prestigious honor,” said Senator Martins.

SENATOR MARTINS JOINS WITH VOLUNTEERS IN CLEANING UP BAXTER’S POND/BARBARA JOHNSON PARK AND PRESERVE IN PORT WASHINGTON

Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with volunteers in cleaning up Baxter’s Pond/Barbara Johnson Park and Preserve in Port Washington. The cleanup was organized by the Baxter’s Pond Foundation.

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with members of the Carle Place community at the Carle Place Civic Association’s annual Fun Run/Walk. Senator Martins served as the starter for the race and cheered participants on as they ran and walked through the streets of Carle Place.

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently visited Spectrum Designs Foundation in Port Washington to congratulate Brent Matthew Lillard on receiving the William B. Joslin Outstanding Performance Award from New York State Industries for the Disabled. Brent was nominated for the award by the Foundation, which aims to provide gainful employment and meaningful work opportunities to individuals with autism, for all his hard work and the crucial role he plays there.

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) will be holding a free workshop to help parents who have children with special needs. The “How to Protect Your Child Legally and Financially” workshop will take place on Monday, October 27th at 7 pm at the Hicksville Library (169 Jerusalem Avenue, Hicksville). 

     The event will feature a presentation by Andrew Coen, Esq. and Mitch Weisbrot, CLU, ChSNC, both of whom are fathers of children with disabilities, to inform parents about the legal and financial preparations crucial to safeguarding assets and benefits for their special needs children.

SENATOR MARTINS SPONSORS FREE CHILD SAFETY SEAT CHECK IN MINEOLA

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently sponsored a free child safety seat check in Mineola.

     Officials from the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board performed free safety seat inspections to make sure that drivers have their children’s car seats properly installed and secured. Child safety seats can reduce the threat of injury or death by as much as 65 percent, but only if they are installed properly, according to the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board.

SENATOR MARTINS CONGRATULATES NEW PORT WASHINGTON POLICE CHIEF

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently attended the swearing-in ceremony for new Port Washington Police District Chief James Salerno. Senator Martins congratulated Chief Salerno and wished him the very best for success.

     Chief Salerno has been serving the community as a member of the Port Washington Police District for nearly 30 years, the last ten as an Assistant Chief to now-retired Chief William Kilfoil. Chief Salerno is the 10th Police Chief in the District’s history.

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District), New York State Senate Health Committee Chairman Kemp Hannon (R, Nassau), and Senate Majority Co-Leader Dean G. Skelos (R, Rockville Centre) today called on state health, emergency services, and homeland security officials to immediately develop a comprehensive plan to address New York’s readiness to combat the Ebola virus. SENATOR MARTINS CONGRATULATES MANHASSET SCOUT ON COMPLETING EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT BENEFITTING SCIENCE MUSEUM OF LONG ISLAND

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District, pictured fourth left) recently congratulated Manhasset resident Vincent Tomaselli on completing his Eagle Scout project to benefit the Science Museum of Long Island. Vincent is a member of Boy Scout Troop 71 and a junior at Manhasset High School. 

     Vincent’s Eagle Scout project was to totally refurbish the unfinished attic of the Museum’s barn so that it could be repurposed and used as the museum’s new anthropology lab. The project took approximately six months of work to complete.

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with the Carle Place School District at their homecoming game.

     Senator Martins, along with Assemblyman Ed Ra, Legislator Laura Schaefer, and East Williston Deputy Mayor Bonnie Parente, also joined with district officials and students in cutting the ribbon on Carle Place High School’s brand new athletic field.

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently attended the re-dedication of North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center’s Lucille & Martin Kantor Bereavement and Trauma Center in Roslyn Heights. 

     The Center offers assistance to children, youths and their families during times of grief and trauma, including family members of suicide victims and parents of murdered children. People in need can take advantage of these services by calling 516-626-1971.
