Dairy Farmers Make Their Plea - Forum At State Capitol Addresses Growing Milk Crisis

ALBANY, 10/19/09 -- Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today heard from dairy farmers and industry leaders from across the state regarding the ongoing milk crisis which has been described as a “depression” for farmers.

“The stories of hardship experienced by many of our upstate farmers are heart-wrenching,” said Senator Seward.  “Many family farms that have been part of our landscape for generations have already disappeared, and if we fail to act now, more will be forced into foreclosure.”

Seward To AG Cuomo - Dairy Industry Investigation Needed

ONEONTA, 09/14/09 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) is calling on the attorney general to investigate how the dairy industry may be shortchanging farmers. “Our hard working farmers put in an honest day’s work.  We need to make sure the rest of the dairy industry is doing the same,” said Senator Seward.  “While many upstate farmers are going out of business, dairy processors and co-ops are reporting record profits.  Something just doesn’t add up.”

ALBANY, 9/2/09  --  State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today applauded funding for area projects through the RESTORE-NY program, an initiative developed in 2006 with the intent to rehabilitate and refurbish buildings in communities across the state.

“The funding will help provide a needed boost to the region and important community projects,” Seward said. “Governor Pataki and the legislature came up with the concept so that we could direct state dollars to downtown areas in particular in order to help local communities restore  buildings and return them to usefulness. The result will be improved communities and a broader tax base.”

Price To Drive Goes Up September 1st

ONEONTA, 08/11/09 – Every New Yorker that drives a car, a truck, a motorcycle, an ATV or a boat will be paying more as the latest round of massive tax and fee hikes approved in the state budget takes effect next month, Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) said today.    “In upstate New York driving is a necessity,” said Senator Seward.  “People depend on their motor vehicle to get to work, go grocery shopping and travel to the doctor.  Many New York City politicians don’t seem to care that the average upstate family will now be forced to pay an extra $100 a year to maintain a needed lifeline.”

Worcester, Oneonta Bridge Construction Nears

ONEONTA, 08/10/09 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today announced that railroad funding toward the cost of the replacement of two railroad bridges in Otsego County has been received by local officials and construction work should begin shortly.

Otsego County will replace the Brooker Hollow Road bridge in the Town of Worcester and the Town of Oneonta will replace the railroad bridge spanning State Route 7 and Pony Farm Road in the Town of Oneonta.
