ONEONTA, 07/13/12 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) announced today counties within the 51st senate district will receive the lion's share of $16 million in state grants and matching funds for stream and flood restoration work to repair damage incurred during Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.
“Reducing the cost of doing business in New York state has been a long held priority of mine. That’s why I helped pass the 2007 Workers’ Compensation Reform that delivered savings to employers and helped injured workers. However, the failure by past governors to fully implement cost control measures mandated by the legislature meant the savings were short lived.
ALBANY, 08/15/12 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today joined Governor Cuomo in announcing immediate steps to cut government red tape to help New York dairy farmers capitalize on the growing Greek yogurt market.
“New York’s Greek yogurt makers are using millions of pounds of milk each day and it only makes sense that they use milk from New York dairy farms,” said Senator Seward. “In order to facilitate this, we are cutting government red tape and partnering with our farmers so they can expand and meet growing demand for dairy products.”
ONEONTA, 08/22/12 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) has received top marks from a pair of leading business groups, the Business Council of New York State and Unshackle Upstate.
“Fostering private sector job growth, especially through the expansion of our small businesses, has been and will remain one of my top priorities,” said Senator Seward. “I have worked hard to bring savings to our businesses by cutting government red tape, delivering meaningful tax cuts, and providing tax credits. These initiatives, in turn, help businesses expand and mean more people are earning a paycheck.”
CORTLAND, 09/05/12 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta) and Assemblyman Gary D. Finch (R/C/I – Springport) are calling on the New York State Department of Transportation to delay the start of bridge construction on State Route 281 in Homer.
“The bridge reconstruction is vital but the timing is a major obstacle,” said Senator Seward. “Our farmers deal with enough hardships without forcing them to navigate through a major, costly detour during the busy fall harvest season.”
NORTH BLENHEIM, 09/19/12 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta) today joined representatives of the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and local officials to present more than $207,000 in grants to nine first-responder organizations in Schoharie and Delaware counties to rebuild equipment and systems capabilities after Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. The grants were announced in August by Governor Cuomo, among other state initiatives to aid communities affected by last summer's storms. NYPA today also issued a request for proposals (RFP) to improve cellular and wireless communications at the Blenheim-Gilboa power plant and across the Northern Catskills.
ONEONTA, 12/05/12 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today marked “Repeal Day” by visiting the under-construction Roots Brewing Company in Oneonta.
“Repeal Day” commemorates the passage of the Twenty-First Amendment to the United States Constitution on December 5th, 1933 ending prohibition.
“New York’s craft brewing industry is expanding statewide, with several growing breweries locally,” said Senator Seward. "Microbreweries and brewpubs, like Roots, meld together small business and agriculture while also expanding on the tourist trade - all mainstays of our local economy.”
ONEONTA, 12/17/12 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today commented on the Thruway Authority’s announcement terminating plans to raise tolls on commercial vehicles:
“When the Thruway Authority floated a proposal to hike tolls on trucks and other commercial vehicles I was among a loud chorus of elected officials, business leaders and concerned citizens denouncing the plot.
“Abandoning this ill-conceived toll hike plan is the right thing to do. The Thruway Authority, like the rest of state government, needs to focus on cost saving measures to right the fiscal ship, instead of simply hiking the cost of doing business in New York.
ONEONTA, 12/19/12 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that 50 job creation projects in the 51st senate district will receive critically important state funds through the second round of Regional Economic Development Council awards.
“The Regional Economic Development Council approach provides our state with a real economic spark, capitalizing on a bottom up approach which maximizes creative and innovative ideas generated by local stakeholders,” said Senator Seward. “I applaud Governor Cuomo and Lieutenant Governor Duffy for this successful initiative that is spurring job growth and building a stronger economy for the future.”
ALBANY, 01/09/13 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today commented on Governor Cuomo’s State of the State address:
“New York is headed in the right direction financially thanks in part to a strong working relationship between the legislature and Governor Cuomo that has evolved over the last two years. As we embark on the 2013 legislative session I anticipate additional collaborations that will bring further improvements.
“The governor’s pledge to continue to hold the line on taxes is one I wholeheartedly endorse. This has been a key piece of our state’s rebuilding foundation and one that must remain if we are to make further strides.
