Cut ACORN From The State Funding Tree

New York State is facing a multi-billion dollar deficit.  Families are making hard choices as they cut back during tough economic times.  Certainly the last thing we should be doing is funding questionable organizations.  That’s why I am joining the growing call to freeze all state funds slated to go to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), its sister organization, the New York Agency for Community Affairs (NYACA) and any other organizations that use state funds to contract with ACORN.

Seward Calls For Improved Ethics Reforms

Seward Named "Hero of Reform"

ONEONTA, 08/16/10 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that he has pledged his support to the “New York Uprising” reform agenda and has been named a Hero of Reform by the grassroots effort.

“I have fought for a number of key reforms during my time in the state senate,” said Senator Seward.  “With my support, legislation has been approved to open up the state budget process, create a more transparent senate and clean up Albany.  Unfortunately, over the last two years, one party rule has dominated state government and many of the landmark reforms have been ignored.”

Time For Government Reform Overdue

Reform is a word that is tossed around a lot by elected officials.  By definition the word reform means to change and improve something by correcting faults – hard to argue with that concept.  Looking at our state government, certainly a few faults need to be corrected.  But simply saying you support reform, and making real improvements, are two different things

Terminate Pensions For Felon Lawmakers

ONEONTA, 04/08/13 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today announced he is joining in sponsoring legislation to end  pension benefits for elected officials convicted of felonies.  Senator Seward is also calling for added state funding to assist in the investigation of government corruption.
