Senate Passes Seward Bill To Combat Heroin & Opioid Crisis

ALBANY, 06/19/14 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today spoke on the senate floor in support of legislation to fight the growing heroin and opioid abuse epidemic.  The senate passed a package of eleven bills that were part of a three-way agreement between the senate, assembly and governor.  The package includes senate bill 7912, sponsored by Senator Seward, to improve access to insurance coverage for substance abuse treatment and dependency services.

Senate Makes Fashion Statement For World Down Syndrome Day

ALBANY, 03/18/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta) today joined his colleagues in the state senate in recognizing the tenth anniversary of “World Down Syndrome Day” and called on the governor to proclaim March 21, 2015 as “Down Syndrome Awareness Day” in the State of New York.

CARE Act Passes Senate

ALBANY, 04/21/15 – The New York State Senate today passed the “Caregiver Advise, Record, Enable (CARE) Act” to educate and support the individuals who provide vital healthcare to loved ones.

The legislation (S.676), co-sponsored by Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) would update New York’s Public Health Law and require hospitals to provide, at a patient’s request, discharge instructions and post-release care plans to a designated caregiver.

Senate Continues Fight Against Heroin

ALBANY, 06/10/15 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today announced senate passage of a comprehensive package of bills to help decrease heroin deaths and put more drug dealers behind bars for peddling dangerous opioids. 

“As a member of the Senate’s Joint Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction, I have worked to combat this deadly drug, which is tearing lives, families, and communities apart,” said Senator Seward.  “Despite our progress last  year in addressing this epidemic, which has reached every segment of our population, the heroin crisis is far from over.”

Seward Bill Will Ensure Moms-To-Be Receive Vital Prenatal Care

ONEONTA, 06/17/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta), chairman of the senate standing committee on insurance, today announced senate passage of landmark legislation (S.5972) he sponsored which will greatly enhance women’s health care in New York State to include pregnancy as a qualifying event for women to enroll in any health insurance plan at any time.
