ALBANY, 05/26/10 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today joined several senate colleagues in calling for the immediate resignation of New York State Office of Children and Family Services Commissioner Gladys Carrion for sanctioning a state-taxpayer funded sex-party at a youth facility that houses killers and other violent criminals.

Reform Needed At New York Juvenile Prisons

As New York continues to deal with an unprecedented fiscal crisis, every dollar expended by the state should come under careful scrutiny.  We must ensure funds are being spent wisely for needed programs that are widely beneficial.  It is also vital that we examine the policymakers, and make certain they are of superior character as well.  Case in point – New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) Commissioner Gladys Carrion.

Seward Co-Sponsors "College Coaches & Professionals Reporting Act"

ONEONTA, 11/29/11 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today announced he is co-sponsoring legislation that will close a loophole in the state’s child abuse reporting requirements.  The “College Coaches and Professionals Reporting Act” adds college coaches, athletic directors, professors, graduate assistants, administrators and college presidents to the list of mandatory reporters of child abuse in New York.
