Fellow New Yorkers:

On Veterans Day, Americans should pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by our veterans.  Whether combat veterans or Cold War veterans, all who served need to be given proper praise for a job well done.  Our veterans have faced hardships that a non-veteran could never fully understand.  Some have faced death in defending our nation’s freedom.  Veterans possess the core American values of loyalty, duty, respect, honor, selfless service, personal courage, and integrity.

ALBANY, 03/24/14 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today announced senate approval of legislation he co-sponsors, to expand career opportunities for service-connected disabled veteran owned small businesses.

ACCORD, 05/08/14 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today presented the family of Sergeant Shawn Farrell II with the state senate’s Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the New York State Senate.

“The Liberty Medal is conferred on a select few, those who have distinguished themselves by meritorious action against hostile odds.  Sergeant Shawn Farrell II was that type of individual,” said Senator Seward.  “He served with courage, bravery and valor, and made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of his country.”

Delaware County WWII Veteran Enshrined In Senate Veterans Hall Of Fame

ALBANY, 05/20/14 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today paid tribute to Edward Rossley of Bovina Center as a 2014 inductee to the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.

“Edward Rossley is a true American hero, and more than worthy of inclusion in the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame,” said Senator Seward.  “Mr. Rossley displayed superior bravery and courage while serving our nation and, upon returning home, dedicated himself to the betterment and safety of his community.

Seward Calls For State Highway To Be Named For Sergeant Farrell

ONEONTA, 06/13/14 – A portion of New York State Route 44/55 in Ulster County will be renamed in honor of United States Army Sergeant Shawn Michael Farrell II through legislation introduced in Albany this week.  The bill (S.7824) sponsored by Senator James L. Seward is expected to come to the senate floor for a vote prior to the scheduled end of the current legislative session on June 19, 2014.

Tribute to Sergeant Shawn Farrell II Passes Senate

ALBANY, 06/20/14 – The New York State Senate has passed legislation renaming a portion of New York State Route 44/55 in Ulster County  in honor of United States Army Sergeant Shawn Michael Farrell II.  The bill (S.7824) sponsored by Senator James L. Seward pays tribute to the young soldier killed on April 28th in Afghanistan. 

“Every man and woman who dons a United States military uniform sacrifices for our nation and our way of life,” said Senator Seward.  “Sergeant Farrell made the ultimate sacrifice and we owe it to him and his family to keep his memory alive.”

Governor Signs Bill Naming Highway For Fallen Ulster County Soldier

ONEONTA, 07/03/14 – A portion of New York State Highway 44/55 in Ulster County will be renamed in honor of United States Army Sergeant Shawn Michael Farrell II under legislation signed into law today.  The legislation (S.7824) was sponsored by Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) and pays tribute to the young soldier killed on April 28th in Afghanistan.

State Highway Named In Honor Of Delaware County Veterans

DAVENPORT, 11/10/14 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta)  and Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney (R/C/I – New Hartford) today joined members of Davenport VFW Post 487 to announce that a portion of New York State Highway 23 is being renamed in honor of United States servicemen and women.  The legislators and veterans unveiled a sign today commemorating the designation.

Anthony Moore with Davenport Memorial Post 487 contacted Senator Seward and requested that New York State Highway 23, through the Town of Davenport, be renamed to serve as a memorial to recently deceased members who served in Korea and fought in World War II, as well as the many veterans residing in the Town of Davenport.
