Stronger Laws Needed To Lock Up Sex Offenders

ILION, 04/01/10 – At the start of National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, state Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today introduced legislation to increase penalties for sex criminals.  The legislation comes in the wake of the recent indictment of Jeremy Snyder, a registered level-two sex offender charged with felony rape of an underage girl in Herkimer County. “This case is especially troubling, as this adult knowingly preyed on young girls after having been already convicted of a sex offense against a minor,” Senator Seward said.

Crack Down on Sex Offenders

April is National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.  The goal is to raise public awareness about sexual violence, focusing on sexual assault and rape, while at the same time, educating communities and individuals about how to prevent such horrific acts.

All Crimes DNA Law Will Help Protect New Yorkers

ALBANY, 03/15/12 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) announced today that the New York State Senate has passed legislation that will implement the largest expansion of the state’s DNA databank since it was created in 1994. 

“DNA is a proven crime-fighting tool.  Expanding its use provides police and prosecutors with the means to put more lawbreakers behind bars and offers another layer of protection for the public,” said Senator Seward.  “More crimes will be solved, more criminals will be brought to justice and more innocent individuals will be exonerated through the databank expansion.”
