ONEONTA, 12/05/12 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today marked “Repeal Day” by visiting the under-construction Roots Brewing Company in Oneonta.
“Repeal Day” commemorates the passage of the Twenty-First Amendment to the United States Constitution on December 5th, 1933 ending prohibition.
“New York’s craft brewing industry is expanding statewide, with several growing breweries locally,” said Senator Seward. "Microbreweries and brewpubs, like Roots, meld together small business and agriculture while also expanding on the tourist trade - all mainstays of our local economy.”
ONEONTA, 12/17/12 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today commented on the Thruway Authority’s announcement terminating plans to raise tolls on commercial vehicles:
“When the Thruway Authority floated a proposal to hike tolls on trucks and other commercial vehicles I was among a loud chorus of elected officials, business leaders and concerned citizens denouncing the plot.
“Abandoning this ill-conceived toll hike plan is the right thing to do. The Thruway Authority, like the rest of state government, needs to focus on cost saving measures to right the fiscal ship, instead of simply hiking the cost of doing business in New York.
ALBANY, 03/27/13 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today commented on final senate approval of the 2013-14 state budget:
“The final state budget meets my central budget priorities – control spending, cut taxes and create jobs. The fiscally responsible plan keeps state spending below the same two-percent cap placed on school districts and local governments while providing significant tax breaks for middle class families, small businesses and manufacturers.
“I’m particularly pleased with the school aid portion of the budget. The vast majority of new money, almost $1 billion, will go to low and average wealth schools that need help the most.
ILION, 07/02/14 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that a $50,000 economic development grant he secured will assist with equipment purchases and job creation at Herkimer Foods in Ilion.
“Herkimer Foods is a true success story and the continued growth of this family-run business here in the Mohawk Valley is tremendous news,” said Senator Seward. “This economic development grant is a key ingredient that will help introduce more people to Original Herkimer Cheese while adding a facelift and new jobs at the Ilion home of this storied product and its’ tasty successors.”
