Seward: Rational Tuition Policy For SUNY A Priority

ALBANY, 06/02/11 – New York State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I, Oneonta) and Assemblywoman Crystal D. Peoples-Stokes (D, Buffalo) today were joined by State University of New York (SUNY) officials in calling for the immediate passage of legislation establishing a rational tuition policy for SUNY.

Enactment of a five-year, fair, predictable and responsible tuition plan for SUNY will protect access and affordability, allow students and families to plan for the cost of their education, and ensure that additional tuition revenue is invested in campus improvements and program development.

Budget Conference Committees Convene

ALBANY, 03/14/12 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) has been named to two key joint budget conference committees which held their first meetings today in Albany.  Senator Seward will serve on the higher education subcommittee and the education subcommittee.

Seward Touts Senate's 2012 College Affordability Plan

ALBANY, 05/15/12 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced introduction of the senate’s 2012 College Affordability Plan which will help middle-class families and students afford the rapidly increasing cost of a college education.  The proposal would help parents save for higher education for their children and give students and families access to low interest student loans, as well as clear information about the size of the loan debt they are taking on.

Budget Conference Committees Convene

ALBANY, 03/17/14 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) has been named to the education and higher education budget conference committees which held their first meetings today in Albany. 

Regarding his education conference committee assignment Senator Seward said:

"The senate budget resolution increases school aid by $811.9 million from last year with a $541 million restoration of the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) which has hurt our area schools.  Eliminating the GEA has been a top priority for me, and, to date, the senate is the only legislative branch to fully target this unfair hit on our area schools."

Seward Plugs In Funding For SUNY Cobleskill Energy Savings Project

ONEONTA, 06/27/14 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that $2 million in capital funding he secured will be used for SUNY Cobleskill’s energy savings project.  

“SUNY Cobleskill offers innovative student programs on a campus that is continually evolving to meet changing needs,” said Senator Seward.  “This funding will help the school go even further by backing new green energy improvements that will lead to a more efficient, environmentally friendly campus – saving money and our natural resources.”
