ONEONTA, 08/10/09 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today announced that railroad funding toward the cost of the replacement of two railroad bridges in Otsego County has been received by local officials and construction work should begin shortly.
Otsego County will replace the Brooker Hollow Road bridge in the Town of Worcester and the Town of Oneonta will replace the railroad bridge spanning State Route 7 and Pony Farm Road in the Town of Oneonta.

ALBANY, 04/12/08- Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today voted against an emergency budget extender bill becasue it suspends payments for ongoing state-funded capital construction projects.
"Construction companies across upstate New York have been forced to lay off hundreds of hardworking individuals because the state isnt meeting its obligations," Seward said. "This endangers critical infrastructure improvements and leaves families in a precarious financial position."

Truck drivers. We see them every day on the highway, and while we have a basic understanding of what they do, we don’t always realize the rigors and risks of the essential job they perform. The vast majority put in long hours away from home so they can earn a living wage and support their families. Along with the dangers one would expect that come with the job of driving an eighteen wheeler – road hazards, equipment malfunctions and driver error – there are other, more sinister threats.
WORCESTER, 11/17/10 – Gathered at a rest area marked for closure, state Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta), Assemblyman Marc Butler (R/C/I-Newport) and Assemblyman Pete Lopez (R/C/I-Schoharie) announced today their opposition to a recent NYSDOT decision to shut down six highway rest areas.
“Weakening one of the few protective measures available to drivers on our roadways leaves all motorists, and in particular, truck drivers at risk,” said Senator Seward. “While I understand the need to cut back in these tough fiscal times, I believe there are other areas that should be considered first.”
WORCESTER, 11/17/10 - Senator James L. Seward joins fellow state lawmakers in protesting a recent NYSDOT decision to shut down six highway rest areas.
Senator Seward was joined by Assemblyman Marc Butler and Assemblyman Pete Lopez in calling on the governor and the DOT to rethink the closure plan and develop alternate cost-saving strategies that will keep the rest areas open, providing truck drivers and the motoring public with safe parking areas.
Others on hand included Hope Rivenburg, whose husband Jason Rivenburg, a truck driver from Schoharie County, was murdered at an abandoned gas station in South Carolina while resting in his rig.
