Seward Bill Part Of Senate Package To Aid NY Veterans

ALBANY, 06/02/14 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today announced senate passage of a package of legislation to provide New York’s military veterans with tax relief, expanded benefits, and special honors.  A bill sponsored by Senator Seward (S.3572A) that would exempt veterans organizations from paying taxes on heating fuel was part of the package.

“Veterans groups do a great deal for their members and communities, removing a layer of bureaucracy and saving them a few dollars is the least we can do,” said Senator Seward.  “My bill would provide veterans groups with the same exemption that is given to religious and charitable organizations.” 


Governor Signs Bill Naming Highway For Fallen Ulster County Soldier

ONEONTA, 07/03/14 – A portion of New York State Highway 44/55 in Ulster County will be renamed in honor of United States Army Sergeant Shawn Michael Farrell II under legislation signed into law today.  The legislation (S.7824) was sponsored by Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) and pays tribute to the young soldier killed on April 28th in Afghanistan.   


State Highway Named In Honor Of Delaware County Veterans

DAVENPORT, 11/10/14 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta)  and Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney (R/C/I – New Hartford) today joined members of Davenport VFW Post 487 to announce that a portion of New York State Highway 23 is being renamed in honor of United States servicemen and women.  The legislators and veterans unveiled a sign today commemorating the designation.

Anthony Moore with Davenport Memorial Post 487 contacted Senator Seward and requested that New York State Highway 23, through the Town of Davenport, be renamed to serve as a memorial to recently deceased members who served in Korea and fought in World War II, as well as the many veterans residing in the Town of Davenport.


Herkimer County Veteran Enshrined In Senate Hall Of Fame

ALBANY, 05/19/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today paid tribute to Anthony Gabriel, Jr. of Herkimer as a 2015 inductee to the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.

“Anthony Gabriel is a true American hero, and more than worthy of inclusion in the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame,” said Senator Seward.  “Mr. Gabriel displayed superior bravery and courage while serving our nation and, upon returning home, dedicated himself to the betterment of his community.  He also never lost touch with his military roots and continued to help prepare new soldiers while working to ensure his fellow veterans receive the respect and recognition they deserve.”
