State Budget Includes Funding For The Catskill Park

ALBANY, 03/31/15 -- State Senators James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) and George Amedore (R-Rotterdam)  announced today that they have secured $500,000 in this year’s state budget to promote economic growth and preservation measures for the Catskill Park.

Senators Amedore and Seward successfully fought for the funding after receiving a request from the Catskill Park Coalition.

Cooperstown Music-Makers Play Capitol

ALBANY, 03/25/14 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta) today proudly welcomed students from Cooperstown Central School to Albany as part of the 42nd annual “Music in our Schools Month” celebration.

“Performances like the ones coordinated by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), are a terrific showcase for the talent that exists in schools throughout the state,” said Senator Seward.  “I enjoyed meeting with the students from Cooperstown and hearing the results of their hard work.”

Choirs, orchestras and bands from across the state travel to Albany throughout the month of March to perform in the concourse of the Empire State Plaza as part of “Music in our Schools Month”.

Seward Bill Key Part Of Senate Package To Protect New York's Motorists

ALBANY, 03/23/15 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today announced senate passage of a comprehensive package of legislation to improve safety on New York’s highways.  The package included a bill sponsored by Senator Seward (S.3511) which targets criminals who capitalize on vulnerable motorists in attempts to profit from insurance claims.

Senate Makes Fashion Statement For World Down Syndrome Day

Seward Stresses Education Priorities At Budget Conference Committee Meeting

ALBANY, 03/16/15 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today during the first  education budget conference committee meeting restated his leading priorities in regard to the education budget.

“Eliminating the Gap Elimination Adjustment, providing fair and equitable funding to our neediest schools, boosting aid to local libraries, and decoupling the governor’s ‘education reforms’ from the budget remain my top priorities as we work toward a fifth consecutive on-time budget,” said Senator Seward.

Seward Presents State Honor To Cuyler Firefighter

ALBANY, 03/16/15 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) recently presented Kelvin “Iron Lungs” Corbin with a New York State Legislative Resolution honoring his six-plus decades of service to the Cuyler Fire Department.

“Kelvin Corbin has displayed unwavering dedication to the citizens of Cuyler for sixty-four years,” said Senator Seward.  “I have a great deal of respect for the men and women who answer the siren’s call, day or night, to protect lives and property.  To do so in a volunteer capacity for such a prolonged period of time, as Kelvin has done, is even more impressive and deserving of special recognition.”

Seward To Play Leading Role In Budget Negotiations

ALBANY, 03/13/15 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) has been named to the education and higher education budget conference committees and will also serve as an alternate to the general budget conference committee.

Regarding his education conference committee assignment Senator Seward said:

“The senate budget resolution accomplishes two of my primary goals – ending the disastrous Gap Elimination Adjustment and significantly raising school aid through a fair and equitable formula.  Moving forward, I will work to protect this vital funding for our students, and will also focus on the education ‘reforms’ proposed by the governor.”

Seward Pledges Support For Student Resolution

HERKIMER, 03/09/15 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) met recently with Herkimer High School Freshman Class President Nicholaus Stallman to discuss education.

“In short order the state senate will adopt its own budget resolution for fiscal year 2015-16, with an eye toward completing work on the state budget by the April 1 deadline,” said Senator Seward.  “My visit with Nicholaus was timely and helped illustrate just how important the state budget is for our students and their future.”

Seward Joins Frankfort-Schuyler For Youth Art Month

FRANKFORT, 03/06/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta) today joined art students at Frankfort-Schuyler Central School to announce that the state senate recently approved a special legislative resolution he sponsored calling on the governor to proclaim March 2015 as Youth Art Month in the State of New York.
