Seward Welcomes New York State Champion Cooperstown Girls Basketball Team To Senate

ALBANY, 04/29/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta) today proudly welcomed the Cooperstown High School Girls Basketball team and their coach Mike Niles to Albany where they were honored during the senate session as the 2015 New York State Class C champions.

“The Cooperstown High School Girls Basketball team is made up of true trailblazers – capturing the school’s first state basketball title,” said Senator Seward.  “From the extra practices at the Clark Sports Center, to summer tournaments, to late nights at the Cooperstown High School gym, and, I’m certain, some time in neighborhood driveways shooting free throws, this team put the work in and the end result was a much sought after state title.”

Schoharie County To Receive Federal & State Funds To Construct New Public Safety Facility

ALBANY, 04/29/15 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today lauded the release of federal and state funds totaling $37 million for flood recovery in Schoharie County:

Seward Calls For Swift Review Of NYSEG's Natural Gas Plan For Cobleskill

ONEONTA, 04/27/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) is urging the New York State Department of Public Service to act quickly on a request from New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) to extend natural gas service within the Village of Cobleskill.

“Affordable energy can be a true game-changer when it comes to attracting new businesses and jobs to our region,” said Senator Seward.  “By extending a natural gas line within downtown Cobleskill, current employers and new businesses, along with residential customers, will all benefit.”

CARE Act Passes Senate

ALBANY, 04/21/15 – The New York State Senate today passed the “Caregiver Advise, Record, Enable (CARE) Act” to educate and support the individuals who provide vital healthcare to loved ones.

The legislation (S.676), co-sponsored by Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) would update New York’s Public Health Law and require hospitals to provide, at a patient’s request, discharge instructions and post-release care plans to a designated caregiver.

State Funding Will Help Keep Kirkside Open

ROXBURY, 04/13/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that the 2015-2016 state budget includes, at his insistence, $150,000 to assist Kirkside A Retirement Home of Distinction in Roxbury. 

“Kirkside Retirement Home plays a vital role in the lives of area senior citizens and is a cherished part of the Roxbury community,” said Senator Seward.  “Ensuring Kirkside is able to continue operating and offering services contributes greatly to the health and well being of the residents and markedly enhances the local quality of life.”

Cortland Line To Remain In Hometown

CORTLAND, 04/09/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today joined Cortland County economic development leaders in crediting a $200,000 economic development package for helping keep Cortland Line Company and its 22 employees in Cortland County.

Cortland Line was on the verge of being sold to an Australian distribution company that would have moved the manufacturing offshore. Incentives offered by local and state agencies were enough, however, to convince new owners to step in and commit to keeping the company home.

State Budget Paves Way For Local Roads

ALBANY, 04/02/15 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today announced that crucial funding to support local highway improvements is included in the 2015-16 state budget.  

“Local roads, bridges, and culverts are the backbone of our state’s infrastructure,” said Senator Seward.  “County and town highway superintendents from throughout my district joined me in Albany last month at a rally calling for an increase in funding for our local roads and bridges – and their voices were heard.”

The 2015-16 state budget makes a record investment of $488 million to support local highway, road, and bridge repair projects including $438 million in Consolidated Highway Improvement Program (CHIPs) funding.

State Budget Funding To Address Owasco Lake Water Quality

ALBANY, 04/01/15 -- State Senators John DeFrancisco, Mike Nozzolio and James L. Seward announced today that the new state budget includes a major win for one of Cayuga County’s key natural resources.

The senators announced that $600,000 in state funding has been awarded to the Owasco Watershed Lake Association to support ongoing and long-term efforts to improve water quality throughout the watershed.

State Budget Includes Funding For The Catskill Park

ALBANY, 03/31/15 -- State Senators James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) and George Amedore (R-Rotterdam)  announced today that they have secured $500,000 in this year’s state budget to promote economic growth and preservation measures for the Catskill Park.

Senators Amedore and Seward successfully fought for the funding after receiving a request from the Catskill Park Coalition.

Cooperstown Music-Makers Play Capitol

ALBANY, 03/25/14 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta) today proudly welcomed students from Cooperstown Central School to Albany as part of the 42nd annual “Music in our Schools Month” celebration.

“Performances like the ones coordinated by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), are a terrific showcase for the talent that exists in schools throughout the state,” said Senator Seward.  “I enjoyed meeting with the students from Cooperstown and hearing the results of their hard work.”

Choirs, orchestras and bands from across the state travel to Albany throughout the month of March to perform in the concourse of the Empire State Plaza as part of “Music in our Schools Month”.
