ONEONTA, 06/30/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced his strong opposition to plans to site a second gas pipeline through portions of his district.
“Plans to make portions of my district a new thoroughfare for gas pipelines are not in harmony with what residents want or support,” said Senator Seward. “The concerns raised by local officials and residents alike are reasonable and understandable and provide strong evidence why the proposal submitted by Tennessee Gas Pipeline (Kinder-Morgan) should be soundly rejected.”

ALBANY, 06/23/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I- Oneonta) today announced final legislative approval of a bill he sponsored establishing the Catskill Mountains Scenic Byway. Senator Seward’s bill (S.5687) adds portions of New York State Routes 28, 42, and 214 in Delaware and Ulster counties to the New York State Scenic Byways System.

ALBANY, 06/10/15 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today announced senate passage of a comprehensive package of bills to help decrease heroin deaths and put more drug dealers behind bars for peddling dangerous opioids.
“As a member of the Senate’s Joint Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction, I have worked to combat this deadly drug, which is tearing lives, families, and communities apart,” said Senator Seward. “Despite our progress last year in addressing this epidemic, which has reached every segment of our population, the heroin crisis is far from over.”
ONEONTA, 06/09/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced senate passage of legislation he co-sponsors which would allow the New York State Parole Board to extend the period of time between reconsidering parole board denials from two years to five years when the inmate was sentenced for a violent crime.

“I voted against the NY-SAFE Act when it was first proposed and have joined law-abiding gun owners in calling for full repeal of this over-reaching, flawed policy ever since it was rushed into law,” said Senator Seward. “While the political landscape in our state is a deterrent to completely erasing this right-restricting law, I do want to make sure that some of the most burdensome provisions are eliminated, and my legislation helps accomplish that goal.”

ALBANY, 06/01/15 – New York Air National Guard Brigadier General Anthony P. German of Oneonta has been confirmed by the state senate as a Major General, Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) announced today. Seward is a member of the Senate Finance Committee, which must consider nominations before they are acted on by the full senate.

ALBANY, 05/21/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I- Oneonta) today announced senate approval of a bill he sponsors that would create a public-private partnership to boost the economic viability of properties in the Belleayre Mountain region.
Senator Seward’s bill (S.1581) would authorize the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) to operate and manage ski and recreational facilities located on properties in the vicinity of the Belleayre Mountain Ski Center.
Anthony J. Gabriel, Jr. of Herkimer proudly served our nation for a total of 36 years in the United States Army. Enlisting as a buck Private in 1948, he eventually retired as a full Colonel in 1984. Mr. Gabriel performed at an exemplary level during his time in the European Theater, Korean War zones and while training his successors.
In 1948, Mr. Gabriel was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division, Company B, 1st Battalion, 18th Regiment in Lenggries, Germany. His assignment list was extensive in the G-3 section, and he served with nobility and courage.

Seward (R/C/I) announced today that the New York State Senate has acted on one of its top end-of-session priorities by passing legislation to make the property tax cap permanent. The bill (S5597) would prevent the planned expiration of the tax cap to continue saving taxpayers billions of dollars each year, increase investments by businesses, and create more jobs.
