Delaware County Tax Bills Signed Into Law

ALBANY, 08/14/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I- Oneonta) and Assemblyman Clifford Crouch (R-Guilford) today announced legislation they sponsored, allowing Delaware County to enact a “bed tax” on hotel and motel room rentals has been signed into law by Governor Cuomo.  The bill (S.5075/A.7316) follows a home rule request from the Delaware County Board of Supervisors and is now Chapter 205 of the laws of 2015

Construction Grants Awarded To 51st SD Libraries

ONEONTA, 08/10/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that community libraries throughout the 51st senatorial district have been awarded a total of $388,930 in public library construction grant funds. 

"Our libraries are community hubs, hosting countless activities that enrich lives young and old," Seward said. “Libraries are also some of the most historic landmarks we have and they are often in need of costly technological and accessibility upgrades that must be accomplished while still maintaining their traditional character.”

Rural Public Transportation Issues Focus Of Senate Forum

COOPERSTOWN, 07/22/15 —New York State Senators James L. Seward (R/C/I) and Tom O’Mara (R/C/I-Big Flats), whose upstate, rural legislative districts are being hurt by state-level changes underway in the management of Non-Emergency Medical Transportation, held a “New York Medicaid NEMT Roundtable Discussion” today in Cooperstown.

The senators heard testimony from local leaders and transportation management officials from Central and Western New York, the Mohawk Valley, the Hudson Valley, the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions, and the North Country on how state reforms are negatively impacting public transportation in the rural communities they serve.

Forum To Address Rural Public Transportation Concerns

ONEONTA, 07/20/15 – New York State Senators James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta) and Tom O’Mara (R/C/I-Big Flats) will be in Otsego County, WEDNESDAY, July 22nd, at the Village Library of Cooperstown.

The senators will host a roundtable discussion focusing on rural concerns raised over the state takeover of the management of local Medicaid Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NMET).

Local leaders and transportation management officials will testify in regard to their experience with the new system and the specific challenges rural communities are contending with due to the state’s ongoing Medicaid redesign strategy.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office K-9 Division Receives State Funding

ALBANY, 07/05/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) and Senator John J. Bonacic (R/C/I – Mt. Hope) today announced $40,000 in state grant funding they secured for the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.  The monies will be used for the purchase of a new police vehicle built specifically for use by the office’s K-9 drug and search rescue team.

Seward said, “Our rural police departments are faced with a number of challenges – fighting crime and keeping costs in check -  and providing them with the tools necessary to perform and ensure officer safety has always been a top priority of mine. Seward Calls On FERC To Reject Tennessee Gas Pipeline Plans

ONEONTA, 06/30/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced his strong opposition to plans to site a second gas pipeline through portions of his district. 

“Plans to make portions of my district a new thoroughfare for gas pipelines are not in harmony with what residents want or support,” said Senator Seward.  “The concerns raised by local officials and residents alike are reasonable and understandable and provide strong evidence why the proposal submitted by Tennessee Gas Pipeline (Kinder-Morgan) should be soundly rejected.”

Town Of Danby Concerns Prompt Seward Bill To Change State Sex Offender Notification Law

ALBANY, 06/15/15 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today announced senate passage of legislation he sponsored (S.5153) to ensure the public is properly notified of the sex offender status of group home residents.

Senate Continues Fight Against Heroin

Seward: Families Have Suffered Enough, Extend Time Between Parole Hearings For Violent Offenders

Senate Passes Seward SAFE-Act Reforms

ALBANY, 06/08/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I- Oneonta) today announced senate approval of a bill he sponsored that would amend several of the most onerous provisions of the NY-SAFE Act. 

“I voted against the NY-SAFE Act when it was first proposed and have joined law-abiding gun owners in calling for full repeal of this over-reaching, flawed policy ever since it was rushed into law,” said Senator Seward.  “While the political landscape in our state is a deterrent to completely erasing this right-restricting law, I do want to make sure that some of the most burdensome provisions are eliminated, and my legislation helps accomplish that goal.”

Senate Advances Bills To Protect Pets, Animals

ALBANY, 06/03/15 -- State Senator James L.
