Edward F. Rossley wore multiple uniforms and proudly served our nation in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. His decorated military career is matched only by his continued devotion to his fellow service members and his commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of his community.
Mr. Rossley enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943, at the age of fifteen. He was assigned to the USS Burke, a destroyer escort for the Atlantic Fleet. Aboard the Burke, Seaman First Class Rossley engaged in sea combat operations during the battles for Guadalcanal and Tarawa.

“A key aspect in the short term battle against heroin and opioid abuse is preventing overdose deaths,” said Senator Seward. “Training more individuals to administer the overdose reversal medicine Naxolone or Narcan will save lives, that’s why I am sponsoring this event and will be among those taking the class on May 7th .”

ONEONTA, 04/28/14- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta) today hosted the Joint Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction in Oneonta. The forum was one of fourteen being held statewide to solicit local input on the rise in use of heroin and other opioids in New York State and develop recommendations for treating and preventing addiction.
Senator Seward, a member of the Joint Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction, was joined by Senator Phil Boyle (R/C/I – Suffolk County), task force chairman, local health care professionals, addiction experts, law enforcement officials, and concerned citizens.

A key aspect in the short term battle against heroin and opioid abuse is preventing overdose deaths. Naxolone or Narcan is a prescription medicine that can revive someone who is overdosing. Currently, in order to obtain this life-saving medication, you must complete a brief training class.
On Wednesday, May 7th, I will be partnering with Friends of Recovery of Delaware and Otsego Counties, Inc., and Otsego County Addiction Recovery Services to conduct a training class that meets New York State Department of Health requirements. Participants will receive a certificate of completion and an emergency resuscitation kit that includes Narcan.

ALBANY, 04/15/14 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today announced that crucial funding to support local highway improvements is included in the 2014-15 state budget.
“Local roads, bridges, and culverts are the backbone of our state’s infrastructure,” said Senator Seward. “County and town highway superintendents from throughout my district joined me in Albany last month to call for added state funding – and their voices were heard.”
After five years without any increase in Consolidated Highway Improvement Program (CHIPs) funding, the new budget includes a second year of record funding - $438 million – for important local highway, road, and bridge repair projects.

The legislation was sponsored by Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I- Oneonta) and follows a home rule request from the three member counties and the authority.
