ALBANY, 06/01/15 – New York Air National Guard Brigadier General Anthony P. German of Oneonta has been confirmed by the state senate as a Major General, Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) announced today. Seward is a member of the Senate Finance Committee, which must consider nominations before they are acted on by the full senate.
“General German has served with great honor and distinction both in and out of uniform and I was extremely proud to move his nomination during the confirmation process,” said Senator Seward. “Tony’s diverse background with the Air National Guard, including his many hours in the air, account for an extensive portfolio of experience that make him ideal for this leadership post.

ALBANY, 05/21/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I- Oneonta) today announced senate approval of a bill he sponsors that would create a public-private partnership to boost the economic viability of properties in the Belleayre Mountain region.
Senator Seward’s bill (S.1581) would authorize the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) to operate and manage ski and recreational facilities located on properties in the vicinity of the Belleayre Mountain Ski Center.
Anthony J. Gabriel, Jr. of Herkimer proudly served our nation for a total of 36 years in the United States Army. Enlisting as a buck Private in 1948, he eventually retired as a full Colonel in 1984. Mr. Gabriel performed at an exemplary level during his time in the European Theater, Korean War zones and while training his successors.
In 1948, Mr. Gabriel was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division, Company B, 1st Battalion, 18th Regiment in Lenggries, Germany. His assignment list was extensive in the G-3 section, and he served with nobility and courage.
ALBANY, 05/20/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I) announced today that the New York State Senate has acted on one of its top end-of-session priorities by passing legislation to make the property tax cap permanent. The bill (S5597) would prevent the planned expiration of the tax cap to continue saving taxpayers billions of dollars each year, increase investments by businesses, and create more jobs.

ALBANY, 05/19/15 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today presented the family of Andre Maurice of Richmondville with a legislative resolution during a special remembrance ceremony in Albany. The resolution formally recognizes the contributions Mr. Maurice made to the Richmondville Volunteer Emergency Squad and the community.
Maurice lost his life in the line of duty shortly after completing an emergency call on March 26, 2014.
ALBANY, 05/18/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I) announced today that legislation he co-sponsors known as “The Domestic Violence Protection Act - Brittany’s Law” received senate approval for a fifth time.
The legislation (S.513) would establish a statewide violent felony offender registry by requiring offenders to register with the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services upon release from prison. The law is intended to increase the safety of all New Yorkers by providing access to the list of convicted violent offenders.

ONEONTA, 04/27/15 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) is urging the New York State Department of Public Service to act quickly on a request from New York State Electric and Gas (NYSEG) to extend natural gas service within the Village of Cobleskill.
“Affordable energy can be a true game-changer when it comes to attracting new businesses and jobs to our region,” said Senator Seward. “By extending a natural gas line within downtown Cobleskill, current employers and new businesses, along with residential customers, will all benefit.”
