Senator Seward Joins Senator Farley On Library Committee

ALBANY, 01/19/12 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today announced that he was named to a newly created Senate Select Committee on Libraries.  This 19-member bipartisan body was established on January 10th through passage of a senate resolution.

“Our libraries play a vital role in our communities,” Seward said.  “As a long-time advocate for libraries, I look forward to furthering my role in promoting their benefits and assisting them in addressing their needs.”

The select committee is authorized to conduct meetings, conferences and public hearings to gather information and to make recommendations on library related legislative proposals.

Senator Seward Comments on State of State Address

ALBANY, 01/04/12 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today commented on Governor Cuomo’s State of the State address:

“Partnering with Governor Cuomo last year, we ended partisan gridlock and a number of successful initiatives were realized.  Now it is time to continue our Empire State resurgence.

Counties Throughout The 51st Senate District Receive Emergency Grants

ONEONTA, 12/20/11 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today applauded the announcement that counties in the 51st senate district will receive nearly $7 million through the Statewide Interoperable Communications Grant (SICG) program to improve emergency communications.

“A reliable communication network is an essential tool for emergency responders,” said Senator Seward.  “These grants will help provide that tool, protecting the lives of those who live and work in upstate New York, while also ensuring the safety of our firefighters, ambulance workers and police.  The funding will also offset a major expense that taxpayers simply cannot afford to shoulder on their own.”

Economic Development & Flood Recovery Money To Help Rejuvenate Schoharie County

COBLESKILL - 12/12/11- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta) and Assemblyman Pete Lopez (R/C/I-Schoharie) joined with local officials and area businesses at SUNY Cobleskill today to focus on newly-awarded state funds aimed at rebuilding flood ravaged communities and strengthening job creation in Schoharie County.

In today’s briefing, Senator Seward and Assemblyman Lopez drew attention to over $5 million dollars for growing the county’s economy and to $50 million approved for flood recovery in Schoharie County and in other declared disaster areas across New York State.

Special Session Produces Tax Cuts, Job Creation Incentives, Flood Relief

ALBANY, 12/07/11 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today applauded the Middle Class Tax Cut and Job Creation Plan which helps rejuvenate the upstate economy and includes special state funding to assist flood devastated communities.

ONEONTA, 11/28/11 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today joined members of Governor Cuomo’s Upstate Storm and Recovery Task Force at a summit to assess the state's ongoing recovery efforts in response to the damage caused by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. The meeting was held in the Town of Windham and included state agency commissioners, local elected officials, community representatives, and was chaired by Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy.

Sign My Petition to Help Reform Medicaid

Overburdened taxpayers in upstate New York and across the state are desperate for relief. The tax cap was a great first step but to actually cut property taxes, county governments need relief from unfunded mandates handed down by the state. Medicaid is the largest mandated budget item for every county in New York State and is the primary reason that New Yorkers pay the highest property taxes in the nation.

New Flood Recovery Resources Now Available

ONEONTA, 11/16/11 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today alerted residents and business owners who suffered damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee of additional flood recovery resources now available. “I have joined Governor Cuomo and members of the Upstate Storm Recovery Task Force in meeting with those devastated by Irene and Lee and appreciate the continuing effort from state agencies to assist those in need,” said Senator Seward. 

“The initial storms were devastating but the ongoing recovery is just as daunting.  As families and business owners make life-altering decisions they need to know what specific government support is available to help them rebuild.

Long Awaited Bridge Reopens In Oneonta

ONEONTA, 11/16/11 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta) recently joined in the grand reopening of the Pony Farm Road bridge in the Town of Oneonta.  The bridge connecting State Route 7 and Pony Farm Road had been closed since January 2008.

“Pony Farm Road businesses and residents rely on this bridge for improved access and safety,” said Senator Seward.  “By leveraging public and private funding sources the long-awaited span was completed without impacting local taxes – a major plus.”
