UTICA, 01/29/14 – Mohawk Valley state legislators Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta), Senator Joseph A. Griffo (R/C/I-Rome), Senator Hugh T. Farley (R-Schenectady), and Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) today announced senate passage of legislation to rewrite New York State’s disaster response playbook. The bills are in response to multiple floods and storm events throughout last summer, which caused an estimated $80 million in damage between June 26 and July 3 in the Mohawk Valley alone.

ALBANY, 01/22/14 – The New York State Senate Majority Coalition recently issued a comprehensive report that sheds light on New York State’s notoriously dense regulatory structure and identifies 2,219 specific rules, regulations and practices that put New York’s businesses at a competitive disadvantage.
The report is the product of surveys, meetings, community outreach and the input of over 100 business owners, advocacy organizations and individuals that participated in one of nine industry-specific public forums conducted throughout the state.

ALBANY, 01/14/14 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today joined veterans and senate colleagues to call for passage of the “NY Jobs for Heroes Program” to support service-connected disabled veteran owned small businesses.
The legislation (S.2803B) co-sponsored by Senator Seward mirrors the highly successful federal program and is currently in use in nearly forty other states. Seward will hold a joint hearing on Monday, January 13th to hear testimony on the impact federal health care reform is having on insured individuals, families, and small businesses.

ALBANY, 12/09/13 – New York Senate Health Committee Chairman Kemp Hannon and Senate Insurance Committee Chairman James L. Seward today introduced legislation to preserve New York State’s Early Intervention Program and make certain that children with special needs receive the care they need.
The legislation (S.6002) requires the state to make prompt payment to early intervention providers and ensures that retroactive payments will be made to providers who have been waiting for reimbursement since a new state system went into effect on April 1.

ONEONTA, 11/22/13 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today urged the new York State Parole Board to deny the release of David Dart, who murdered 18 year old Gillian “Jill” Gibbons in 1989 in Oneonta.
“This horrendous crime remains fresh in the minds of the victim’s family, her friends, and the community at large,” said Senator Seward. “I see no reason why this confessed killer should be afforded the opportunity to roam free after taking a young woman’s life in cold blood.”
