Alesi Bills Aim To Curb DWI Threat

Senator Jim Alesi (R,C - Perinton) today announced that the Senate passed a bill he sponsored (Senate Bill S.2272) which would increase the penalties for criminal convictions of drunk or drugged driving where a child is a passenger. The Senate also passed a bill Senator Alesi sponsored that would increase penalties for refusing to submit to a chemical test (S.2273).

Senator Jim Alesi (R,C - Perinton) today informs residents of the availability of the Presidential Memorial Certificate for the family members and loved ones of deceased veterans.

A Presidential Memorial Certificate (PMC) is an engraved paper certificate, signed by the current president to honor the memory of an honorably discharged deceased veteran.

Senator Alesi Supports $24.6 Billion Education Budget Bill

Senator Jim Alesi (R,C - Perinton) announced that the 2005-06 Education Budget Legislation passed today in the Senate will allocate an additional $850 million in educational assistance to schools across New York, with $44 million being directed to schools in Monroe County.

"Education has always been, and will continue to be, my first priority as a legislator," said Senator Alesi.

Senator Alesi: State Budget Will Cap Monroe County's Medicaid Tab

Senator Jim Alesi (R,C - Perinton) today announced that the state budget to be enacted this week will include a substantial Medicaid relief program that will provide more than $75 million in tax savings for Monroe County residents.

Senator Alesi Announces Improved Traffic Device In Perinton

Senator Jim Alesi (R/C-Perinton) today announced the addition of flashing lights to existing traffic signs at the busy intersection at Route 250 and St. Andrews Boulevard in the Town of Perinton. The legislators, working in conjunction with the state Department of Transportation (DOT) and community members, were able to achieve a reasonable solution to area of concern.

"I am pleased that the state Department of Transportation has agreed to reexamine and review their previous studies conducted for this busy intersection," said Senator Jim Alesi.

Fairport High School Student Honored In Renowned Science Competition

Senator Jim Alesi (R,C - Perinton) today joins Governor Pataki to announce that Bruce Brewington of Fairport High School is one of 13 New York State high school students to have been named a finalist in the Intel Science Talent Search -- often considered the "Junior Nobel Prize."

"Selected as a finalist for the Intel Science Talent Search, Bruce Brewington is recognized as one of the nation's most talented young scientific minds," said Senator Alesi. "Bruce's achievement is an awesome testament to his desire and passion for learning.

Senator Alesi Announces Disaster Recovery Funds From Summer Storms

Senator Jim Alesi (R,C - Perinton) joins Governor Pataki in announcing the release of more than $150,000 in federal and state payments to local municipalities and entities, including Monroe County and the City of Rochester, in the continuing recovery efforts from last year's late summer storms which resulted in two federal disaster declarations.

"I am pleased to join the Governor in announcing payments to our local governments and emergency organizations," said Senator Alesi.

Local War Heroes Receive High Military Honors

Senator Jim Alesi (R,C - Perinton) and Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks today hosted a special ceremony to present seven local war veterans with military awards sanctioned by the State of New York. Awards presented included the Medal for Merit, the Conspicuous Service Star and the Conspicuous Service Cross.

"I am honored to present these awards to the brave veterans who selflessly fought for our freedom," said Senator Alesi. "This is a tribute to the men and women who have put their own lives on the line to stand in defense of our American way of life.
