Senate Co-Leader Jeff Klein and Bipartisan Group of Senators Propose Tax Credit for Local Businesses Hiring Young Veterans

ALBANY, N.Y. – Seeking new and effective ways to spur job creation and address perennially high unemployment rates amongst New York’s returning combat veterans, Independent Democratic Conference Leader and Senate Co-Leader Jeffrey D. Klein, alongside fellow IDC member Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland), Republican Senator Greg Ball (R-Putnam) and a bipartisan group of Senators from across New York, introduced legislation today to provide major tax credits to private employers hiring veterans discharged after 9/11. The legislation is named “Jobs for Heroes.”

Senate Co-leader Jeff Klein Leads Bipartisan Passage of Landmark Gun Control Legislation in Senate

ALBANY – In the opening days of the 2013-2014 legislative session, the New York State Senate and the New York State Assembly overwhelmingly passed a bold and bipartisan legislative package that enacts new comprehensive gun control measures statewide. Passage of this legislation, known as the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act (NY SAFE Act) marks the New York State Senate’s bipartisan Majority Coalition’s first major legislative success. Senate Co-Leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) praised the deal as a smart, thorough, and balanced approach towards addressing gun violence.

Senate Co-Leader Jeff Klein Calls for Immediate Statewide Ban of Popular Over-the-Counter Performance Enhancing Drug

In the wake of Lance Armstrong’s admission of longtime performance enhancing drug (PED) use, New York State Senate Co-Leader Senator Jeff Klein called for the immediate ban of the extraordinarily popular—and dangerous—performance enhancing drug known as DMAA. DMAA is currently the active ingredient in some of the most popular muscle building products sold at all GNC and Vitamin Shoppe stores. DMAA, which has been widely banned across the world and by every major sports organization, was recently banned by the Pentagon after the sudden deaths of three marines who had been using the product.

Marriage Equality in New York: One Year Later, Economic Activity Meets, Surpasses, IDC’s 2011 Estimates

Numbers released today prove that members of the New York State Senate’s Independent Democratic Conference got it right one year ago when they predicted that an annual average of at least 7,000 same sex couples would tie-the-knot over the first three years of marriage equality going into effect. With 11,518 same sex couples marrying in New York over the last year, New York experienced economic growth even greater than the IDC could have predicted.

Klein, Dinowitz, Community Celebrate Closure of Objectionable Massage Parlor in Riverdale

Months Long Investigation Results In Closure Order


RIVERDALE, BRONX, N.Y. –  Senator Jeffrey D. Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) joined with Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (D-Bronx) and leaders in the Riverdale Community to celebrate the closure of “New Healing Touch” massage parlor which has long been a source of concern to many in the surrounding area.  The parlor was closed after two arrests in the last six months for prostitution.  Senator Klein wrote to Commissioner Raymond Kelly in December of last year asking that the site be investigated.
