NEW YORK- State Senate Deputy Majority Leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) exposed SUNY’s wasteful employee overtime spending. Klein also called on SUNY and Governor Paterson to cut overtime spending in half, potentially saving NYS $5 million dollars by the end of March 2010 and centralize the SUNY police force, saving NYS $3 million dollars in the next year.
(Albany, NY) – Demonstrating their commitment to developing a fiscally responsible budget, the Senate Majority Conference announced the formation of a new bipartisan task force on government efficiency. Chaired by Deputy Senate Majority Leader Jeff Klein, the twelve-member task force will conduct a statewide investigation into the spending practices of state agencies and operations to uncover areas of administrative inefficiencies and government waste.
Led by Senator Klein, Task Force Demands Answers on Excessive Overtime Pay and Overhead Costs
ALBANY – The Senate Task Force on Government Efficiency, chaired by State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Jeff Klein, probed officials from the State University of New York (SUNY) system at a public hearing Thursday regarding excessive spending on overtime pay and overhead costs. The hearing was the first of many the Task Force plans to conduct in an effort to examine spending at state agencies.
ALBANY – State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) introduced a resolution Tuesday calling on Congress to pass legislation banning the shipment of cigarettes via the U.S. Postal Services (USPS), thereby closing a massive loophole in the fight to collect taxes on cigarettes sold online by Native Americans.
Last week, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed the Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking (PACT) Act; Klein’s resolution urges the House of Representatives to immediately do the same.
