MARRIOTT TO OPEN ITS FIRST HOTEL IN THE BRONX

Well-known international hotel chain invests in Bronx County, expected to provide hundreds of good jobs for Bronxites in the process

BRONX, NY  - State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), joined by Bronx Chamber of Commerce members and Residence Inn by Marriott hotel representatives hosted the first job fair for the new Residence Inn by Marriott Bronx at Metro Center Atrium, expected to open in early 2015. The new hotel will be located at the Hutchinson Metro Center Atrium, 1776 Eastchester Road, Bronx, NY 10461.  The job fair was held in conjunction with Bronx H.I.R.E. - an innovative and targeted jobs program developed by the Office of Senator Klein and the Bronx Chamber of Commerce.

SENATOR KLEIN SECURES $1.5 MILLION TO CONSTRUCT NEW BASEBALL FIELD AT THROGS NECK HOUSES

BRONX, NY – Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) announced that he has secured $1.5 million in state funding that will go towards the construction of a new baseball field at the Throgs Neck Houses. Klein delivered the exciting news to those in attendance at the Throgs Neck Resident Council meeting which took place Thursday evening at the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club in the Bronx. The funding, which has been appropriated to the New York City Housing Authority, will enable residents of the housing complex to enjoy new recreational and athletic activities in their own backyard.

Bronx H.I.R.E jobs program draws more than 100 former service men and women looking for work

BRONX, NY – Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), along with members of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, hosted a Bronx H.I.R.E. job fair at Hutchinson Metro Center Wednesday afternoon aimed at helping veterans secure employment. The job fair drew more than 100 job seekers. The event followed the Bronx Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Veterans Luncheon at F & J Pine Tavern in Bronxdale.

SENATOR KLEIN CONGRATULATES BRONX REGIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WINNERS ON $1.3 MILLION FUNDING AWARD

BRONX, NY – At the Regional Economic Development Awards, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo today announced the allocation of $1.3 million in funding for community-based organizations and non-profits in the 34th Senate District. The four winners included: the North Riverdale Merchant Business Association, the New York Botanical Garden, the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation, and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation in partnership with the Bronx River Alliance.

SENATOR KLEIN DONATES MORE THAN 2,000 TEXTBOOKS TO STUDENTS OF P.S. 107

Klein Secures New Social Studies Books  & Digital Readers for Elementary School Students

BRONX, NY – State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), together with Assemblyman Marcos Crespo (D-Bronx), today visited P.S. 107 to donate more than 2,000 textbooks and e-readers to students for the holidays. Upon arrival, Senator Klein was met with a welcome reception in the auditorium, featuring a special holiday performance by the school choir. Senator Klein then visited with numerous classrooms grades K-5, and took a tour of the elementary school’s library and science laboratory.
