WESTCHESTER OFFICIALS UNVEIL ALARMING TREND OF ENERGY ALCOHOLIC DRINK ILLEGALLY BEING SOLD TO TEENS

Call for NYS Liquor Authority to investigate harsher penalities for local retailers

 WESTCHESTER, NY – Deputy Majority Leader and State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) joined Tuckahoe Mayor John Fitzpatrick, Bronxville Mayor Mary Marvin, Tuckahoe Police Chief John Costanzo, Bronxville Police Chief Christopher Satriale and James Genova, Project Director of Eastchester Communities that Care Thursday to unveil the most recent results of an ongoing undercover investigation and crackdown into the illegal sale of alcoholic caffeinated beverages such as FOUR LOKO and JOOSE  to area teens. The lawmakers also called on the SLA to investigate alcoholic beverages being marketed and sold to underage drinkers in New York State.

in partnership with the Throggs Neck Community Action Partnership (TNCAP), delivered state-of-the art ID scanners to multiple Bronx bars and restaurants just in time for the expected rush of minors attempting to illegally gain entry to bars during this holiday and “back-to-school” weekend. Klein was joined by Frances Maturo of TNCAP, Kathy Gallagher, manager of The Wicked Wolf as well as various owners and representatives from multiple other Bronx bars and restaurants.

Independent Democratic Conference Releases 2012 Legislative Agenda

 

NEW YORK, NY - The Independent Democratic Conference  released its 2012 legislative agenda Thursday aimed at strengthening this state's economy, improving the lives of New York residents, and preserving New York's progressive tradition.

The agenda was released on the anniversary of the IDC's formation and after a successful year that saw many of the conference's 2011 priorities made into law.

Klein Investigation Finds Gaps in Rockefeller Reform Implementation

NEW YORK, NY – More than half of substance abuse treatment providers have reported no increase in patients in the three years since Rockefeller Drug Law reform, raising serious questions about the implementation of the revamped statutes, according to a report released Sunday by State Senator Jeffrey D. Klein, (D-Bronx/ Westchester), the chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse.

The report, “Assessing the Effectiveness of Substance Abuse Treatment Under Rockefeller Drug Law Reform,” also found widespread communication problems between criminal justice agencies and recovery providers, as well as funding issues that threaten the effectiveness of the reforms.
