NEW YORK- On January 14th, State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) joined more than 800 Bronx Catholic School parents and elected officials in urging Governor Paterson to reimburse independent and religious schools approximately 243-million dollars.
The rally, held at Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx, also focused on promoting legislation (S5832) sponsored by Klein, that would mandate reimbursement for religious and independent schools for the cost of the MTA payroll tax totaling $6 million annually.
Senator Klein presents $50,000 to St. Dominic and $50,000 to St. Benedict Schools to fix broken windows and hole in roof
NEW YORK- Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) presented 100K in grant money to St. Dominic and St. Benedict Catholic Schools today during their school assemblies.
St. Dominic has had a problem with broken windows for six years. Some of them do not open and one fell out, causing students to wear coats in the classroom to keep warm. Klein’s grant will be used to fix the windows.
Senator Klein presents 100K grant to New Rochelle School District for expansion of SmartMusic Program
NEW YORK- On Friday, March 12th, Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) joined by New Rochelle Superintendent Richard Organisciak, school officials and students, presented a $100,000 grant to the New Rochelle School District.
The money will be used to fund the expansion of the district’s SmartMusic program, giving elementary students new opportunities to learn how to play a musical instrument and improve their vocal performances.
Senator Klein presented a 5K grant at Villa Maria Academy’s Breakfast of Champions for new defibrillators
NEW YORK- On Saturday, March 13th, Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), presented a $5,000 grant to Villa Maria Academy at its 22nd Annual Breakfast of Champions. Former World Boxing Champion Iran Barkley, NYPD Detective Steven McDonald, Villa Maria Academy Athletic Director Michael Bernard, other elected officials, 170 students, parents, teachers and staff also attended the event.
Senator Klein presents $685,000 grant to Schools Chancellor Joel Klein to boost Music, Arts & Technology Programs
NEW YORK- On Friday, March 19th, Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) presented a $685,000 grant to New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein to help save and boost music, arts and technology programs in approximately 21 Bronx public schools. Klein presented the grant to Schools Chancellor Klein at P.S. X014 Senator John Calandra school in the Bronx where principals, teachers and students from nearly two dozen other area schools gathered for the event.

NEW YORK- On Saturday, March 20th, Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) spoke at the Eastchester School Foundation’s fourth annual fundraiser. Eastchester School Foundation President Joe Gresia, the Harlem Wizards basketball team, 900 students, parents and staff also participated in the event as the Harlem Wizards went head to head with Eastchester school faculty in a basketball game.
Senator Klein’s Video Lottery Terminal Legislation Expected to Generate $100 Million Annually
ALBANY – State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) announced on Wednesday that the Senate passed legislation to expand hours and types of games for video lottery terminals (VLTs). Klein’s bill (S.706-D) is expected to generate an additional $100 million annually for state aid to education. There are currently more than 13,000 video lottery gaming machines at horse racing tracks across the state.
