The Independent Democratic Conference joined their colleagues in the Senate today to pass a comprehensive ethics reform package that strengthens oversight of the State Legislature, increases transparency, and helps restore the public's faith in their state government.


Independent Democratic Conference Releases 2012 Legislative Agenda


NEW YORK, NY - The Independent Democratic Conference  released its 2012 legislative agenda Thursday aimed at strengthening this state's economy, improving the lives of New York residents, and preserving New York's progressive tradition.

The agenda was released on the anniversary of the IDC's formation and after a successful year that saw many of the conference's 2011 priorities made into law.


Senate Co-Leader Jeff Klein and the Independent Democratic Conference Release Comprehensive Plan to Overhaul Campaign Finance Laws and Implement Comprehensive Public Financing System for State Elections


April 12, 2013 - Today, Senate Co-Leader and Independent Democratic Conference Leader Jeffrey D. Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) and members of the IDC proposed sweeping reforms to New York State’s current campaign finance laws. The IDC’s proposal would introduce a comprehensive system of public campaign financing under which all qualifying candidates would be eligible to receive public matching funds. Under the IDC’s plan, candidates opting not to participate in the public financing system would be required to participate in a completely overhauled campaign finance system.



Independent Democratic Conference Hosts Public Hearing on Campaign Finance and Ethics Reform in Albany

ALBANY, NY – Today in the capital, the New York State Senate’s Independent Democratic Conference hosted its fourth statewide hearing on campaign finance and ethics reform. At the hearing, experts offered testimony on proposals to publicly finance campaigns, overhaul the state’s porous campaign finance laws, and eliminate conflicts of interests between lobbyists and campaign consultants.
