YONKERS CITY COUNCIL ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR SENATOR KLEIN'S CARRYING WHILE INTOXICATED BILL

Yonkers, NY – The Yonkers City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday in favor of a resolution supporting State Senator Jeff Klein’s legislation (S6773) to make it a crime to carry a gun while intoxicated.

“Guns and alcohol are a deadly mix. Putting a stop to carrying while intoxicated is a common sense measure that New York State absolutely must adopt. I applaud the Yonkers City Council for joining me in this fight to protect New Yorkers from gun violence,” said State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Jeffrey D. Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester).

Passage of this legislation, known as the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act (NY SAFE Act) marks the New York State Senate’s bipartisan Majority Coalition’s first major legislative success. Klein, NYAGV, Million Mom March of NYS and State Legislators Commemorate Sandy Hook Anniversary

NEW YORK, NY - Flanked by a coalition of anti-gun violence activists and state legislators, Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) commemorated the Sandy Hook Anniversary at a rally on the City Hall Steps in Manhattan on Thursday by highlighting the tough new gun control laws passed on the first day of this year’s legislative session and by calling on other states and the federal government to adopt strong measures. The rally followed news earlier in the week that a report released by the Brady Campaign and the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence had bumped New York’s gun safety rating up from a “B” to an “A-."

State Senate Co-Leader Jeff Klein Secures $300,000 Grant for Operation SNUG, an Innovative Gun and Gang Violence Prevention Program for The Bronx

BRONX - Today a cutting-edge statewide gun and gang violence prevention program – Operation SNUG – received a $300,000 award from State Senator Jeff Klein to operate in The Bronx’s Jacobi Medical Center. The hospital also generously chipped in another $50,000 to the anti-gun violence effort.
