SENATOR KLEIN ANNOUNCES TASK FORCE ON GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY

(ALBANY, NY) - Demonstrating their commitment to developing a fiscally responsible budget, the Senate Majority Conference announced the formation of a new bipartisan task force on government efficiency. Chaired by Deputy Senate Majority Leader Jeff Klein, the twelve-member task force will conduct a statewide investigation into the spending practices of state agencies and operations to uncover areas of administrative inefficiencies and government waste.

New York State Senate Passes Klein Bill to Stop Homeowner Insurance Scams

ALBANY, NEW YORK – On Tuesday, the New York Senate passed legislation to protect homeowners from insurance scams by establishing a strict firewall between public adjusters and contractors. The legislation (S.3771A) was written by Senator Klein in response to a series of complaints filed by homeowners against City Island-based Adjustrite, a contracting firm that had established a coordinated scheme whereby a public adjuster directed homeowners to a local contractor with whom he worked and had a nefarious financial arrangement. The bill, known as the “Gayla Marsh Bill,” was named after Gayla Marsh, who fell victim to Adjustrite. Her son, Chancy Marsh, notified Senator Klein’s office and, together, identified other victims of Adjustrite.

Albany, NY –  The New York State Senate Coalition today unveiled a new alarming joint-investigative report, “Keeping Our Children Safe From Sex Offenders, Special Report: Westchester & Rockland Counties,” conducted by the offices of State Senate Coalition Co-Leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) and State Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos (R-Nassau), which uncovered sex offenders living dangerously close to preschools in Westchester and Rockland.

State Senator Jeff Klein turns up the heat on coldest Bronx buildings

Investigation finds 15 most egregious heat code offenders in borough; recommends remedies to HPD to keep buildings in compliance

BRONX, NY – State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) today released a report, “Turning Up the Heat: An Investigative Report into The Bronx’s Coldest Buildings,” which includes a list of the top 15 heat code offenders in the borough.

As chilly temperatures set in, tenants, who reside in buildings on the list, have already called in complaints of “no heat” or “no heat/hot water” to the city’s Housing and Preservation Department.
