Senator Klein Releases Public Service Announcement to Alert New Yorkers to Dangerous Loan Modification Scams
ALBANY, NY – With new, vital provisions of his foreclosure legislation scheduled to take effect on Thursday, April 15th, State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) called for the next level of protections for New York State homeowners on Wednesday. Earlier this year, Senator Klein unveiled new legislation aimed at significantly decreasing, and in some cases eliminating, the pervasive practice of loan modification scams.
Throggs Neck seniors Lenore and Dominick Marano avoided being charged more than a thousand dollars in unnecessary insurance costs thanks to State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester). Klein worked with the Maranos' mortgage lender to help fight a nearly $1,400 increase in their annual flood insurance premium.
This spring, the Maranos received a letter from their bank with whom they have a mortgage stating that their flood insurance had to be dramatically extended. The letter said that their yearly flood insurance premium would double. Upon receiving this information, the Maranos immediately contacted Senator Klein’s office.
Senator Successfully Fights for Student to Receive $12K in Financial Aid
BRONX, NY – Morris Park resident Isabel Mauriello no longer has to worry about how to pay for college, thanks to the efforts of State Senator Jeff Klein.
A student at Manhattanville College, Mauriello had worked hard to stay on top of the financial aid process so that she could continue her education this fall. After receiving Pell funding and Stafford loans, however, she was still $12,000 shy of meeting the full tuition costs for the upcoming year. Mauriello looked to take out a private loan from a bank, but because she was unable to secure a co-signer with adequate credit, she was continually denied.

Jeffrey Klein warned residents Monday that banks are putting people in danger by neglecting foreclosed homes around the city.Klein released a survey that claims 2,000 bank-owned foreclosed properties in the city have nearly 4,000 open violations. A law was passed in 2009 that requires all banks to keep foreclosed properties up to code.
