Senator Klein’s bill helps support the efforts of many New Yorkers to use these gardens to grow low-cost, fresh fruits and vegetables, and build stronger community and neighborhood bonds.

Senate Passes Klein Bill to Help NYS Local Farmers Deliver Produce in Urban Areas
ALBANY, NY – State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Jeffrey D. Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) announced on Monday that the Senate passed his legislation to increase New Yorkers’ access to fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables. Klein’s bill (S.6203/NYS Assembly same-as A.6408/Ortiz) authorizes the NYS Urban Development Corporation to offer loans and grants to local and regional farmers, making it easier for them to distribute and transport produce to grocery stores and green markets.
72 hours after hearing that the Love Gospel Church in the Van Nest neighborhood of the Bronx had been vandalized, State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Jeffrey D. Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) joined local community leaders, church officials and a graffiti clean-up team to clean the side of the church on Saturday, June 5th. This is the second time in just two months that Senator Klein’s crew has helped remove graffiti from the church.
Senate Passes Klein Bill to Deter Graffiti Vandals
State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Jeffrey D. Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) announced that the NYS Senate passed his legislation last week that would require convicted graffiti vandals who are sentenced to community service have graffiti removal be a part of that service. This legislation (S.1880/NYS Assembly same-as A/8532/Benedetto) is another part of Senator Klein’s ongoing efforts to eliminate graffiti across the Bronx by cracking down on those who perpetrate these crimes.
State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. will host their annual Fourth of July Boardwalk Festival and Fireworks Extravaganza at Orchard Beach on Thursday, July 1st from 6-10PM. The event is free, open to the public and will feature music, a magic show, face painting, and balloon art. The fireworks show begins at 9PM.
