BRONX, NY– Standing under the dome of the Gould Memorial Library at Bronx Community College (BCC), State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) announced that BCC will be a host site for START-UP New York, a groundbreaking initiative that allows select colleges and universities to create tax-free zones on or near their academic campuses.
In the wake of the American Studies Association's (ASA) targeted and singular boycott of Israeli universities, State Senate Co-Leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) and Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) announced plans to introduce legislation that would cut-off state aid to public and private universities who participate in organizations that boycott countries like Israel.

In December, the American Studies Association, a prominent organization that includes some of the most respected colleges and universities across the United States, took the unprecedented step of boycotting all Israeli academic institutions and scholars from its events and conferences.
Despite calls by numerous college presidents--including those at Harvard and Yale universities--for the ASA to end the boycott against Israel, the ASA's discriminatory policy remains firmly in place. That's unacceptable.
BRONX, NY - State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) announced a $1.5 million dollar state grant he secured that will go toward the building of a new state-of-the art Seamanship Center at SUNY Maritime. The exciting announcement came as hundreds of students arrived back at Maritime from the summer sea term session on the training ship Empire State VI on Monday morning.
The Seamanship Center will be constructed on existing available area on the basin, specifically on the deepwater college pier. The new center will include nearly 4,000 square feet of classroom space to support the Marine Transportation curriculum. In addition the space is expected to serve as an in-service training location for active mariners - including members of the NYPD and FDNY.
