Bronx H.I.R.E jobs program draws more than 100 former service men and women looking for work

BRONX, NY – Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), along with members of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, hosted a Bronx H.I.R.E. job fair at Hutchinson Metro Center Wednesday afternoon aimed at helping veterans secure employment. The job fair drew more than 100 job seekers. The event followed the Bronx Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Veterans Luncheon at F & J Pine Tavern in Bronxdale.

More than 50 residents joined the elected officials to share their ongoing grievances over building conditions, rent stabilization rights, rent increases and evictions.

SENATOR KLEIN SECURES $1.5 MILLION TO CONSTRUCT NEW BASEBALL FIELD AT THROGS NECK HOUSES

BRONX, NY – Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) announced that he has secured $1.5 million in state funding that will go towards the construction of a new baseball field at the Throgs Neck Houses. Klein delivered the exciting news to those in attendance at the Throgs Neck Resident Council meeting which took place Thursday evening at the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club in the Bronx. The funding, which has been appropriated to the New York City Housing Authority, will enable residents of the housing complex to enjoy new recreational and athletic activities in their own backyard.

MARRIOTT TO OPEN ITS FIRST HOTEL IN THE BRONX

Well-known international hotel chain invests in Bronx County, expected to provide hundreds of good jobs for Bronxites in the process

BRONX, NY  - State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), joined by Bronx Chamber of Commerce members and Residence Inn by Marriott hotel representatives hosted the first job fair for the new Residence Inn by Marriott Bronx at Metro Center Atrium, expected to open in early 2015. The new hotel will be located at the Hutchinson Metro Center Atrium, 1776 Eastchester Road, Bronx, NY 10461.  The job fair was held in conjunction with Bronx H.I.R.E. - an innovative and targeted jobs program developed by the Office of Senator Klein and the Bronx Chamber of Commerce.

KLEIN, SEPULVEDA, & CRESPO HOST FUNDRAISER TO SAVE NO KILL ANIMAL SHELTER IN THE BRONX

Elected Leaders join forces with Community in an Effort to Keep Sole Bronx Animal Rescue & Adoption Facility Running

BRONX, NY - State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) joined by Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda (D-Bronx), Assemblyman Marcos Crespo (D-Bronx) at Holy Cross School in Soundview on Sunday held a fundraiser aimed at saving the only no-kill animal shelter in Bronx County. Attendees also had the opportunity to adopt a pet from New Beginning Animal Rescue and make a donation to save the facility. The shelter is under financial hardship, making it likely that it will have to close its doors to the dozens of abused, neglected and otherwise abandoned dogs and cats that it currently houses.

Senator Klein and City Islanders Celebrate Second Annual Clam Chowder Festival

BRONX, NY - State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) joined City Island restaurant owners and residents at Hawkins Park Sunday afternoon for Klein’s 2nd Annual City Island Clam Chowder Festival. The chowder festival took place during the annual City Island Chamber of Commerce Arts & Crafts Fall Fair. Fair goers enjoyed samples of chowders from participating local restaurants and had the opportunity to vote for their favorite. Three awards were given: People’s Choice Chowder; best Manhattan Clam Chowder; and best New England Clam Chowder.

Senator Klein & Bronx Chamber of Commerce Host First Bronx H.I.R.E. Job Fair

BRONX, NY – Senator Klein, along with the Bronx Chamber of Commerce and local elected officials, hosted the first Bronx H.I.R.E. job fair at Hutchinson Metro Center Wednesday night, drawing more than 400 job seekers. Attendees were given an opportunity to connect with Bronx-based employers - big and small - that are currently hiring.

Bronx H.I.R.E (Help Identify Real Employment) is a unique jobs program aimed at connecting Bronx workers with real jobs through a comprehensive, direct approach developed by Senator Klein’s office and the Bronx Chamber of Commerce. The Bronx H.I.R.E. program, announced in July, is made possible through a $200,000 grant secured by Senator Klein in this year's state budget.

Edgewater Park Volunteer Fire Department Gets Updated Communications & Response System

Bronx NYCHA Housing Complexes Receive more than $3.7 Million in Capital Grants

BRONX, NY - State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) announced Friday that three New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) complexes in his district will receive a total of $3,710,000 in capital funding that he secured in this year’s state budget. The monies are slated for the Sack Wern, Pelham Parkway and Throgs Neck Housing complexes and will be used for much needed upgrades aimed at improving the living conditions, safety and lifestyle of the residents who call these complexes home.

Klein and Cohen Announce $325,000 for Renovations at Riverdale Neighborhood House

BRONX, NY - State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) and Council Member Andrew Cohen (D-Bronx) announced Thursday that the Riverdale Neighborhood House (RNH) will receive $325,000 in state capital and municipal grants to modernize and upgrade the facility. Much of the funding will go towards upgrading the electrical and cooling systems in Riverdale Neighborhood House’s main building which was built in 1938. These much needed upgrades, some of which are the first to occur since the early 20th century, will help modernize Riverdale Neighborhood House and make it more energy efficient.

SUNY Maritime to Build New Seamanship Center

BRONX, NY - State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) announced a $1.5 million dollar state grant he secured that will go toward the building of a new state-of-the art Seamanship Center at SUNY Maritime. The exciting announcement came as hundreds of students arrived back at Maritime from the summer sea term session on the training ship Empire State VI on Monday morning.

The Seamanship Center will be constructed on existing available area on the basin, specifically on the deepwater college pier. The new center will include nearly 4,000 square feet of classroom space to support the Marine Transportation curriculum. In addition the space is expected to serve as an in-service training location for active mariners - including members of the NYPD and FDNY.

Broad Street Pavilion Ribbon Cutting

MOUNT VERNON, NY - State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), joined by Mount Vernon elected officials and community leaders, unveiled the newly renovated Broad Street Pavilion on the evening of Saturday, August 9th. The official ribbon cutting was followed by a viewing of “Despicable Me II,” for Fleetwood families to enjoy. The movie was part of Senator Klein’s Summer Movie series which provides free screenings and popcorn at various locations throughout the 34th Senate District during the summer season.
