Klein/ Dinowitz Sponsor Anti- Wheel Theft VIN Etching Clinics

 

BRONX, N.Y. – Responding to a spike in alloy tire rim thefts in their communities, Senator Jeffrey D. Klein, (D-Bronx/ Westchester), and Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, (D-Bronx), will be partnering with local police to hold a series of free VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) etching clinics.

During these events, the first of which will be held this Thursday in Riverdale, trained officers will be etching these VINs on a car's windshield and its tire rims. Having these markings will make the car and its parts easier to trace and much more difficult for criminals to sell.

Independent Democratic Conference Unveils ThoughtRaiser Initiative

 

The Independent Democratic Conference today announced the launch of its “ThoughtRaiser Initiative,” the IDC's effort to have the issues dominating Albany mirror what's most important to New York State residents.

These Thoughtraiser will focus on residents, community stakeholders, and local groups, and will be held across New York state. Each forum will be small by design in order to foster real discussion on how government can best help.

Klein Secures, Delivers, Supplies In Preparation for Hurricane Irene

In preparation for Hurricane Irene, Senator Jeffrey D. Klein, (D-Bronx/ Westchester), secured and today delivered much needed supplies to vulnerable communities and organizations throughout his district.

The supplies, which included sandbags to help hold back potential flood waters, as well as sleeping bags and water, were donated by Bronx and Westchester businesses.

NY1 Covers Sen. Klein's Bill To Better Prepare Police For Interactions With The Mentally Disturbed

Several interactions between police and the mentally ill have ended with violence, bringing attention to an issue that law enforcement officials and advocacy groups want to see remedied. NY1's Dean Meminger filed the following report.In March, police shot and killed a knife-wielding man at 1545 Rhinelander Avenue in the Bronx. It turns out he was mentally disturbed and had been arrested 16 times.Lawmakers say the shooting might have been avoided if police knew about the man's history."Over the last year at 1545, there's been 150 calls to 911," said Bronx State Senator Jeff Klein.

News 12 -- Sen. Klein: Neglectful banks putting residents at risk

(08/01/11) THE BRONX - State Sen. Jeffrey Klein warned residents Monday that banks are putting people in danger by neglecting foreclosed homes around the city.Klein released a survey that claims 2,000 bank-owned foreclosed properties in the city have nearly 4,000 open violations. A law was passed in 2009 that requires all banks to keep foreclosed properties up to code.
