During Hurricane Sandy Recovery, Senator Klein Delivers Hot Meals to Seniors in Woodlawn

On Friday, my office learned that nearly 150 Woodlawn seniors in a highrise building were still without power. Concerned for these brave folks, my staff and I swept into action. Within three hours, thanks to the genrosity of local volunteers and a great Bronx restaurant (The Pine), I delivered 150 hot meals to every resident in the 100 unit apartment building. It took a lot of walking up dark stairwells, but it was definitely worth it. Assemblyman Jeff Dinowitz joined me, and we can safely say that we have never met a more upbeat and appreciative crowd. Thanks to everyone who helped make it happen!

Marriage Equality in New York: One Year Later, Economic Activity Meets, Surpasses, IDC’s 2011 Estimates

Numbers released today prove that members of the New York State Senate’s Independent Democratic Conference got it right one year ago when they predicted that an annual average of at least 7,000 same sex couples would tie-the-knot over the first three years of marriage equality going into effect. With 11,518 same sex couples marrying in New York over the last year, New York experienced economic growth even greater than the IDC could have predicted.
