Senator DeFrancisco Discusses Manufacturing in New York State

On October 15, 2012, State Senator John A. DeFrancisco participated in a panel discussion on the future of economic development programs for statewide manufacturers.  The annual event, which was hosted by the Manufacturers Association of Central New York, featured several panel discussions on various issues.  It was held at the Doubletree Hotel in East Syracuse.

Senator DeFrancisco Honors Purple Heart Recipient SPC. Sean Hudson

SPC. Sean Hudson, a veteran of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, was awarded the Purple Heart on October 9, 2012. State Senator John A. DeFrancisco is pictured congratulating SPC. Hudson with Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle. Hudson also received the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Combat Infantry Badge.

Senator DeFrancisco Participates in Taiwanese Flag Raising at City Hall

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco watches as the Taiwanese Flag is raised at Syracuse City Hall.  Senator DeFrancisco spoke during the flag raising ceremony, held on October 5, 2012.  Friday was also declared Republic of China Taiwan Community Recognition Day.

Senator DeFrancisco Helps Dedicate the Elizabeth "Libba" Cotten Monument

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco admires the new Elizabeth "Libba" Cotten monument, located at the corner of State and Castle Streets in Syracuse.  Senator DeFrancisco helped secure some state funding for the monument, which was unveiled and dedicated on October 2, 2012.  Libba Cotten was a legendary folk musician, who lived in Syracuse.  She wrote and performed the iconic song, "Freight Train."  Speakers at the dedication ceremony included the Senator, Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner, Peter Englot from Syracuse University, Francis Parks, Otis Jennings and Sculptor Sharon BuMann.

Senator John DeFrancisco Tours Economic Development Projects with Governor Cuomo

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco shakes hands with construction workers at St. Joseph's Hospital and Health Center on October 2, 2012.  The Senator joined Governor Andrew Cuomo for a tour of regional economic development projects.  Other stops included the Biotech Accelerator site, Inner Harbor and Connective Corridor.  Senator DeFrancisco is a member of the Governor's assessment team.

Senator DeFrancisco Hosts His Annual Senior Fair

Several hundred senior citizens from throughout Central New York attended Senator John DeFrancisco's annual Senior Fair at the New York State Fairgrounds on September 27, 2012.  Nearly 90 exhibitors were stationed under one roof to provide seniors with valuable information on various programs and services.  Local health professionals also offered free health screenings.  Entertainment was provided by the Mickey Vendetti band.  Senator DeFrancisco would like to thank all of the vendors who made this year's Senior Fair a success and all of the seniors who attended.

Senator DeFrancisco Announces Funding for Libraries in Onondaga County

Senator John A. DeFrancisco announced at Mundy Library on September 18, 2012, that he has secured $90,000 dollars in state funding for local libraries.  These funds will be awarded to individual libraries throughout Onondaga County in system-wide programs and mini-grants over the next two years.

Senator DeFrancisco Secures Funding for Upstate Cord Blood Bank

Upstate Medical University will begin construction on a $15 million dollar Upstate Cord Blood Bank, located on the former Community General campus.  This public blood bank will collect, process and store umbilical cord blood donated by families for life-saving medical procedures.

Senator DeFrancisco Takes Questions on Destiny USA During a Conversation Series

In front of a packed room, State Senator John A. DeFrancisco discussed his opposition to the Destiny USA tax deal. His talk on September 13, 2012, was the first in a monthly series of conversations, or lectures, hosted by Christ The King Retreat House and Conference Center in DeWitt.  Senator DeFrancisco also took questions from the crowd.  About 100 people attended the event.

Senator DeFrancisco Celebrates Onondaga County Hispanic Heritage Month

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco spoke about the importance of diversity and unity during the opening ceremony of the 2012 Onondaga Hispanic Heritage Month.  The event was held at Delaware Academy in Syracuse on September 13th.  The Senator also presented organizers with a Citation to recognize and celelebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

Senator DeFrancisco Receives New York State Magistrates Association Award at 2012 Conference

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco is picutred with Van Buren Justice Ed Van Der Water and Mrs. Van Der Water at the 103rd New York State Magistrates Association Conference and Installation Banquet.  Senator DeFrancisco was the keynote speaker, and he received the 2012 Amicus Curiae Award from the NYS Magistrates Association for his commitment to town and village courts.  Senator DeFrancisco is the first-ever, non-judicial recipient of this new award.  The event was held at the Sheraton University Hotel in Syracuse on September 11th.

Senator DeFrancisco Congratulates CNY United Power Soccer National Champions

CNY United players, Peyton Sefick and Andrew Cunningham presented Senator John A. DeFrancisco with a team jersey and picture on August 24, 2012.  CNY United, a power soccer team, won the United States Power Soccer Association (USPSA) Champions Conference Cup in July.  Also featured in the photo are Head Coach Jim Sefick and Assistant Coach Tom Cunningham. The Senator plans to introduce and pass a Senate Resolution to honor the entire CNY United team.
