This program shows a clip of a budget debate between Senator DeFrancisco and the Senate Finance Chair, Karl Kruger. It also features a DeFrancisco debate on legislation to require car dealerships to post gallons per mile with the sponsor of the bill, Senator Squadron.
Senator John DeFrancisco talks about this week's budget extender that includes furloughs for state workers. He speaks about getting an actual budget done for NY, following budget reform laws on 2007 and power for jobs.
More than half of the budget has been passed by weekly budget extenders with only $1.1 billion in cuts having been made. Since the deficit is $9.2 billion, it is obviously unlikely that $8.1 billion in cuts will be found in the portion of the budget that remains to be done. As I've said from the beginning, the piecemeal manner in which the budget is being passed by the Senate Democrats will inevitably lead our state to more taxes and borrowing. I will continue to fight against new taxes and borrowing.
