SENATE PASSES BILL TO HELP PHARMACIES COLLECT CO-PAYMENTS

Senator John A. DeFrancisco (R-I-C Syracuse) announced that the New York State Senate today passed his bill (S4749), which would allow pharmacies to collect prescription drug co-payments at the point of sale.

Currently, recipients of Medicaid and Family Health Plus can refuse to pay a modest co-payment, which can range between $1 and $6 depending on the prescription. The pharmacy must still honor the prescription despite a beneficiary’s refusal to pay, resulting in significant financial losses to New York State pharmacies each year.

SENATE PASSES BILL REQUIRING IMPLEMENTATION OF BIOMETRIC TECHNOLOGY TO CRACK DOWN ON MEDICAID FRAUD

Senator John A. DeFrancisco (R-I-C Syracuse) announced that the New York State Senate today passed a bill that he co-sponsored (S4384B), which would require the Department of Health, in consultation with the Office of the Medicaid Inspector General and the Office of the Attorney General, to implement a program requiring the use of biometric technology to help prevent Medicaid fraud.

SENATE REPUBLICANS CALL FOR IMMEDIATE AUDIT OF STATE’S MEDICAID PROGRAM, ANNOUNCE SENATE ROUNDTABLE TO INVESTIGATE ALLEGATIONS OF “COMPLACENT” OMIG

Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos and the Senate Republican Conference today called for an immediate independent audit of New York State’s Medicaid program and announced a forthcoming joint roundtable meeting of the Senate Health and Investigations Committees to investigate allegations of complacency and inaction by the state Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG).

In addition, Senate Republicans will work to establish a system to continually monitor and evaluate the state’s Medicaid program to ensure it is working to provide health care to those who truly need it while protecting taxpayer dollars. The system will be modeled on the strategy utilized in South Carolina to gauge the effectiveness and performance of that state’s Medicaid program.
