Members of Reality Check CO2 (Cayuga, Onondaga, and Oswego counties) met with State Senator John A. DeFrancisco on January 24, 2012, during Legislative Day at the Capital.  Reality Check is a New York youth-led anti-tobacco group.   

Senator DeFrancisco Helps Promote New York Youth Works Program

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco is pictured with Paul Nojaim and Anette Rivera on April 27, 2012, at Nojaim Brothers Supermarket in Syracuse.  Senator DeFrancisco was at the supermarket to raise awareness about the New York Youth Works program, which encourages businesses to hire unemployed, disadvantaged youth.  Rivera, who has been an employee at Nojaim Brothers Supermarket since age 14, will graduate from LeMoyne College.  Nojaim has signed up for the New York Youth Works program.  Businesses may apply for certification online at www.jobs.ny.gov/youthworks.

SENATE PASSES BILL CREATING THE NEW YORK STATE GOVERNOR’S COUNCIL ON PHYSICAL FITNESS

Senator John A. DeFrancisco announced on May 7, 2012, that the New York State Senator passed his bil (S2856-A) that would establish a New York state Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Sports and Health. 
“Obesity in children is on the rise.  More than 30 percent of children ages six to 11 are overweight, and the numbers are even worse for adolescents,” said Senator DeFrancisco.

The New York State Senate passed a number of bills during the 2012 legislative session to help create jobs, increase public safety, and improve school performance, which are discussed on my weekly cable show, Your Voice.

On this program, I talk about a new state measure that will help combat cyber-bullying, the “Public Assistance Integrity Act” that would safeguard taxpayer dollars, and a bill that would require beneficiaries of government paid prescription benefits to pay their co-payments.

SENATOR DEFRANCISCO PROMOTES LEGISLATION TO HELP MORE YOUNG PEOPLE SUCCEED IN SCHOOL AND THE WORKPLACE

Assemblymember Sam Roberts held a press conference on July 26, 2013, with Senator John A. DeFrancisco to urge the Governor to sign into law a bill they authored to reduce the number of part-time hours needed to qualify for the NY Youth Works program (A.7928-A/S.4762-A). The press conference was held at Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection, a nationally recognized Syracuse City youth development and dropout prevention program that helps students stay in school and successfully graduate high school ready for post-secondary education and employment.
