Senator DeFrancisco Announces New Round of Grants for Growth

On November 1, 2012, State Senator John A. DeFrancisco helped announce a new round of funding for Grants for Growth. The program, now entering its 10th round, awards grants to various companies.  During a press conference at The Tech Garden, Senator DeFrancisco addressed the program's impact on our economy through product development and job creation. Senator DeFrancisco has secured an additional $2 million dollars in funding for the program.  Companies that want to apply for Grants for Growth can visit www.thetechgarden.com/.

COLUMN BY SENATOR DEFRANCISCO: HONORING OUR VETERANS

As we mark this Veterans Day, I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all of our veterans, who have honorably served this proud State and Nation. Your invaluable sacrifices have not gone unnoticed.

Through my role as a New York State Senator, and a veteran of the United States Air Force, I have done all I can to serve our soldiers and veterans. Recently, a bill that I supported to improve the identification process for veterans, was signed into law by Governor Cuomo. This new state law will now make it easier for former service men and women to identify themselves as veterans, by providing them with a separate indicator line, or mark, on their New York State Drivers License or non-driver ID.

Senator DeFrancisco Observes the Use of Computing Tablets at Soule Road Elementary School

Students at Soule Road Elementary School demonstrate for State Senator John A. DeFrancisco how they use tablet computing devices during interactive learning projects.  Senator DeFrancisco helped secure discretionary funding for the Liverpool School District, which was used to purchase the tablets.  He visited two first and fifth grade classrooms on October 22, 2012, to observe the tablets in use.

SPC. Sean Hudson, a veteran of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, was awarded the Purple Heart on October 9, 2012. State Senator John A. DeFrancisco is pictured congratulating SPC. GOVERNOR CUOMO SIGNS BILL INTO LAW REQUIRING LICENSE FOR PERSONNEL WHO OPERATE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT THAT SUPPORTS HEART AND LUNGS

Senator John A. DeFrancisco announced that Governor Cuomo has signed his bill (S4640c) into law requiring a New York state permit for medical personnel, who operate equipment that supports a patient’s heart and lungs during certain medical procedures. 

“Currently, perfusionists, who are the operators of the equipment, are not required to be licensed or certified in New York state. This law requires that perfusionists obtain a permit and establish that they are regulated by the New York State Board of Education,” said Senator DeFrancisco.

Senator DeFrancisco Helps Dedicate the Elizabeth "Libba" Cotten Monument

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco admires the new Elizabeth "Libba" Cotten monument, located at the corner of State and Castle Streets in Syracuse.  Senator DeFrancisco helped secure some state funding for the monument, which was unveiled and dedicated on October 2, 2012.  Libba Cotten was a legendary folk musician, who lived in Syracuse.  She wrote and performed the iconic song, "Freight Train."  Speakers at the dedication ceremony included the Senator, Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner, Peter Englot from Syracuse University, Francis Parks, Otis Jennings and Sculptor Sharon BuMann.

Senator John DeFrancisco Tours Economic Development Projects with Governor Cuomo

State Senator John A. Senator DeFrancisco Hosts His Annual Senior Fair

Several hundred senior citizens from throughout Central New York attended Senator John DeFrancisco's annual Senior Fair at the New York State Fairgrounds on September 27, 2012.  Nearly 90 exhibitors were stationed under one roof to provide seniors with valuable information on various programs and services.  Local health professionals also offered free health screenings.  Entertainment was provided by the Mickey Vendetti band.  Senator DeFrancisco would like to thank all of the vendors who made this year's Senior Fair a success and all of the seniors who attended.

In 1968, three young men sat on a park bench in Easton, PA and talked about – no – mimicked old men sitting on such a bench. Young, athletic men do such things. They disregard the future as it applies to the march of time. They think more about yesterday’s card games, their season, their upcoming game – about the things that young athletic men think about. 

That they lost that day, a game they should have won but for an ironic twist of baseball fate, would become inconsequential in time. Most of the things that such young men do at that age become inconsequential – but some, like friendship, do not.

SENATOR DEFRANCISCO ANNOUNCES MINI-GRANTS FOR ONONDAGA COUNTY LIBRARY PROGRAMMING PROJECTS

Senator John A. DeFrancisco announced on September 18 2012, that he secured $90,000 dollars in state funds to be awarded to individual libraries in Onondaga County in system-wide programs and mini-grants over the next two years. The grants are intended to serve the uses of 32 public libraries in Onondaga County and 19 boards.
