Senator John A. DeFrancisco honored Solvay Middle School Principal James Werbeck with a Resolution on May15, 2012. Werbeck was named the 2012 New York State Middle School Principal of the Year by the School Administrators Association of New York State. James Werbeck and his wife, Susie, were recognized by Senator DeFrancisco from the Senate Floor in Albany.
State Senator John A. DeFrancisco helped dedicate the Paul Seymour Playground at Skiddy Park in Syracuse on May 17, 2012. The playground is named after the captain of the 1955 NBA Championship Syracuse Nationals team, Paul Seymour.
Standing outside the Onondaga County Justice Center in Syracuse, State Senator John A. DeFrancisco paid tribute to local firefighters and sheriff's deputies who have died in the last year. The memorial service was held on May 17, 2012.
On May 17, 2012, State Senator John A. DeFrancisco helped celebrate the first-ever Veterans Build through Syracuse Habitat for Humanity. The two houses, located at 113 and 115 Fitch Street, were built for disabled veterans, Mike Smith and Felicia Plunkett. They are affordable, energy efficient, and handicap accessible. State Senator John A. DeFrancisco read the story, Bullies Never Win, to a group of students from two outstanding kindergarten classes at the Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School on May 17, 2012. He also answered some of the students' questions about his job.

Mastine, who passed away earler this year, was Director of Constituent Services in the Senator's district office. An awards ceremony was held in Albany on May 15th.
State Senator John A. DeFrancisco announced that the New York Senate passed legislation today, May 15, 2012, which would give state agencies the authority to determine whether a letter of credit is needed for a state contract, and would limit the amount of the letter of credit to 3 percent of the total contract award.
“A three percent cap on a letter of credit would help small and medium-sized businesses, because a letter of credit requirement adversely impacts a company’s ability to secure a loan, and it ties up resources that a company needs for operating expenses and growth,” said Senator DeFrancisco.
Senator John A. DeFrancisco honored Colleen H. Mastine with the 2012 "Women of Distinction" award for the 50th Senate District. The New York State Senate recognizes women from Central New York and throughout the state at a reception in Albany.
"I am proud to honor my former colleague and friend, Colleen Mastine, who served in my district office for many years," said Senator DeFrancisco.
"Through her work in the Senate, she helped so many citizens in our community. I commend her for a lifetime of helping others, and for the genuine caring and concern that she exhibited, as she worked with people to solve their problems," said Senator DeFrancisco.
