SENATOR JOHN DEFRANCISCO ANNOUNCES 2013 REGIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL AWARDS

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, announced today (12/11/13) that $66.9 million has been awarded through Round Three of the Regional Economic Development Council Awards to help create and retain jobs in Central New York. For the second consecutive year, Senator DeFrancisco joined Governor Andrew Cuomo and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver for the REDC awards ceremony in Albany.

DeFrancisco presented a Citation to Lawrence Apgar and James Oliver of Robertson Strong Apgar to recognize the firm for marking 50 years of business. RSA Architects is a Syracuse based architecture firm specializing in office, educational, university and church projects.

Senator DeFrancisco Moderates Common Core Community Forum at Fayetteville-Manlius High School

On December 3, 2013, State Senator John A. DeFrancisco served as the moderator of a community forum on the Common Core Standards, which was held at Fayetteville-Manlius High School.  New York State Education Commissioner John King attended the forum to answer questions and listen to comments from the public regarding Common Core and teacher evaluations.  About 200 parents, teachers and community members attended the event.  Also participating in the forum were Senator David Valesky, Assembly members, Will Barclay, Al Stirpe and Gary Finch (not pictured in photo), and Board of Regents Vice Chancellor Anthony Bottar.

Senator DeFrancisco Tours the Amboy Compost Facility

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco toured the renovation project at OCCRA's Amboy Compost Facility in Camillus on Monday November 26, 2013.  Senator DeFrancisco saw how the facility transforms food scraps and yard waste into nutrient-rich compost.  OCCRA's Amboy Compost Facility generates 36,000 cubic yards of compost each year.

STATE SENATE REPUBLICANS ISSUE REPORT ON TAX REFORM

State Senate Republicans today, November 19, 2013, issued a comprehensive report on state taxes that calls for personal income taxes, business taxes, estate taxes and local property taxes to be reformed, simplified and reduced. The report makes sweeping recommendations for reducing the tax burden on all New Yorkers.

DeFrancisco participated in a groundbreaking ceremony at Mercy Health and Rehabilitation Center's Auburn campus on October 7, 2013.  During the event, Senator DeFrancisco, and other elected officials, spoke about the merger of Mercy and the Cayuga County Nursing Home.  A renovated facility is expected to open early next year.

William Cregg and John Harke Receive New York State Senate Liberty Award
