Senator DeFrancisco Celebrates Opening Day of Festa Italiana Syracuse

On September 13, 2013, State Senator John A. DeFrancisco attended the opening ceremony for Festa Italiana in Syracuse, which was held on the steps of Syracuse City Hall.  The three-day event will feature great food, events and live music.  A flag-raising cerermony was held to honor and celebrate the Italian-American culture.

Senator DeFrancisco Visits Simulation Center at Upstate College of Health Professionals

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco is pictured with a group of health care perfusionist students from SUNY Upstate Medical University. Senator DeFrancisco toured the facility and observed a clinical demonstration on September 11, 2013.  Senator DeFrancisco is seated next to a cardiovascular perfusion simulator, which provides students with hands-on learning experience.

Senator DeFrancisco Celebrates the Opening of SUNY ESF Gateway Center

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco helped cut the ribbon for the SUNY ESF Gateway Center on September 6, 2013.  Senator DeFrancisco is pictured with ESF President Cornelius Murphy and New York State Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy.  Senator DeFrancisco helped secure funding for the Gateway Center, which uses biomass pellets and natural gas to provide the campus with 65 percent of its heating needs and 20 percent of its electrical power.

The state Senate Finance Committee, chaired by Senator John DeFrancisco (R-C-I, Syracuse), and the Committee on Investigations and Government Operations, chaired by Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R, Syosset), have scheduled five statewide public hearings on how New York’s tax policies can be changed to reduce the burden on taxpayers and to help businesses create more jobs.

Information on the PFC Joseph Dwyer Program for Veterans

The PFC Joseph Dwyer Program provides peer-to-peer counseling and assistance to veterans who are living with the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury.  Since its inception, the program had been operating in four test counties. Senator John A. DeFrancisco was instrumental in helping to expand the program in the 2013-14 State Budget to additional counties, including Onondaga County.  State funding for the program will be routed to Clear Path for Veterans.

Senator DeFrancisco Celebrates Opening Day of the 2013 Great New York State Fair

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco helped cut the ribbon for the start of the 2013 Great New York State Fair on August 22, 2013!  He is pictured next to New York Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy.  After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Senator DeFrancisco visited several exhibits at the fair, including "Onondaga Lake: A Fresh Gateway to a New New York" in the Center of Progress Building and the "New York State Fair: History Exhibit" in the Grange Building.

Senator DeFrancisco Participates in Hearing on Preventing Municipal Bankruptcy

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco participated in the hearing titled, "Fiscally Distressed Municipalities: Preparing for and Preventing Municipal Bankruptcy in New York," which was held by Senator Jack M. Martins of Mineola.  The hearing took place at Syracuse City Hall on August 20, 2013, and was held to hear potential solutions for preventing fiscal problems in municipalities.  The hearing in Syracuse was one of several that are being held throughout the state.

STAR Registration Fact Sheet

New legislation will require all homeowners receiving a Basic STAR exemption to register with the New York State Tax Department in order to receive STAR exemptions in 2014 and subsequent years.  Registration will begin on August 19 and continue through December 31, 2013.  For more information on this registration requirement, please click on the box below for a STAR fact sheet.

Senator DeFrancisco Helps Announce 80 New Jobs at Medical Answering Services

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco helped publically announce the creation of 80 jobs at Medical Answering Services in Syracuse during a press conference at MAS on August 14, 2013. The additional jobs are a result of the company's new contract with the state. MAS has provided Medicaid Transportation Management services in New York state since 2004, resulting in millions of dollars of savings. Senator DeFrancisco joined other elected officials and MAS leaders and staff for the press announcement.

Senator DeFrancisco Reads to Children at Seymour Library in Auburn

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco enjoyed reading to children at Seymour Library in Auburn on Tuesday, August 13, 2013.  Senator DeFrancisco also on Tuesday visited Stewart Lang Memorial Library in Cato, as part of the New York State Senate Summer Reading Program, which wraps up later this month.  The annual program helps to promote literacy throughout the state.
