FREE Electronics Recycling Event in Auburn on May 18th

You can properly dispose of your electronics by dropping them off at a FREE electronics recycling event that I am sponsoring in May.

The event will be held near the Time Warner Cable building at 32 Owasco Street in Auburn, on Saturday, May 18, 2013.  Sunnking Electronics Recycling will be accepting computers, television sets and small appliances. 

Community partners are Time Warner Cable, Sunnking Electronics Recycling and Hospice of the Finger Lakes.

On April 27, 2013, Senator John A. DeFrancisco attended The Bicentennial Ball to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Village of Manlius.  Senator DeFrancisco presented a legislative resolution to Manlius Mayor Paul Whorrall, who was dressed in period clothing to celebrate the occasion.

Paying Tribute to Colleen Mastine

Senator John A. DeFrancisco looks on as the director of Casey's Place unveils a plaque in memory of the late Colleen H. Mastine.  Mastine, a long-time staffer in Senator DeFrancisco's district office, passed away last year.  She was an active member of the board of directors for Casey's Place and a tireless advocate for all local constituents.  Casey’s Place in Syracuse provides more than 300 families with respite services for their children.

Senator DeFrancisco on Your Voice

On this week's cable program, I discuss legislation that would unseal juvenile records prior to bail hearings for alleged sex offenders.

Last month, David Renz allegedly murdered a woman and sexually assaulted a child in Clay after disconnecting his electronic monitoring bracelet while on bail. He had been implicated in a prior sexual assault case as a teenager, but those records were sealed.

I have introduced this legislation in the hope that it might prevent future tragedies.

Senator DeFrancisco Recognizes Soccer Shoot-Out Winner Mari DeTota at the NYS Capitol

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco is pictured holding a Resolution with Liverpool student, Mari DeTota, in Senate Chambers on April 22, 2013.  Mari won first place in the Elks Area 1 National Soccer Shoot-Out.  Senator DeFrancisco, along with Senator David Valesky who is pictured on the right, passed a Resolution to congratulate and recognize Mari for her achievements.  Mari's family accompained her to Albany for the presentation.

Senator John DeFrancisco Recognizes a West Point Cadet from Central New York at the NYS Capitol

Senator John A. DeFrancisco recognized Cadet Sergeant Brian Callahan, a Central New York West Point cadet, during West Point Day at the New York State Capitol.  Callahan is a Syracuse native and a 2010 graduate of Bishop Grimes High School.

“All of these cadets are exceptional young men and women, but I am especially proud to honor Brian Callahan who is from Syracuse,” said Senator DeFrancisco. “Brian should be commended for his patriotism, dedication and strong commitment to our Nation. For Brian to answer the call to serve in this dangerous time is truly an inspiration to all of us.”

It is estimated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that autism has risen to 1 in every 88 births in the United States.

In order to raise awareness about the programs and services available to families affected by autism, the New York State Senate has commemorated April 2013 as Autism Awareness Month.

THE 2013-2014 NEW YORK STATE BUDGET

The 2013-2014 State Budget is a fiscally responsible budget that will control spending, cut taxes and keep New York State moving in the right direction.  It is the third consecutive on-time budget.

New legislation will require all homeowners receiving a Basic STAR exemption to register with the New York State Tax Department in order to receive STAR exemptions in 2014 and subsequent years. For more information on the STAR program, please click here.

Senator DeFrancisco Discusses State Budget Bills That Improve Transportation and Public Safety on Your Voice

On this week's Your Voice cable program, State Senator John A. DeFrancisco discusses increased funding for the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program, known as CHIPS. These funds will directly go to local governments for highway, bridge and road repairs.  Senator DeFrancisco also talks about the Legislature's rejection of proposed restrictions on plea bargaining, and a measure to provide school districts with more flexibility when hiring retired police officers for school protection.

SENATOR DEFRANCISCO ANNOUNCES MORE THAN $3.4 MILLION TO BE ALLOCATED FOR ROAD AND BRIDGE REPAIR PROJECTS IN THE 50TH SENATE DISTRICT

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco (R,I,C) announced that more than $3.4 million in state funds will be allocated to the 50th Senate District for road and bridge repairs as part of the 2013-14 Budget under the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS).

“I am pleased to see an increase in the amount of money provided for road and bridge repair for the first time in five years,” said State Senate Finance Chairman John A. DeFrancisco. “We desperately need these infrastructure improvements for communities throughout our state, and these projects will help to create local jobs and stimulate the economy.”
