Senator DeFrancisco Participates in Weedsport Summer Fest

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco helped celebrate the Weedsport Summer Festival in Trolley Park on Saturday August 10, 2013.  Senator DeFrancisco is pictured with members of the Weedsport Chamber of Commerce to show support for the first annual event which included arts, crafts, games and food.  Proceeds from the event were donated to the Domestic Violence Services Component of Cayuga/Seneca Agency, Inc.  Senator DeFrancisco is wearing a t-shirt that was made by volunteers to support the cause.

Senator DeFrancisco Helps Honor the Life of Harriet Tubman

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco helped unveil a New York State Department of Transportation highway sign honoring the life and legacy of Harriet Tubman.  Senator DeFrancisco joined family members of the late Harriet Tubman and other local dignitaries for the "Walk in the Steps of Harriet" event held in Auburn on Friday August 2, 2013.

Senator DeFrancisco Recognizes Sandra Martin Upon Her Retirement

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco presented Sandra Martin with a legislative resolution on August 1, 2013, to honor Martin for her dedicated service.  Sandra Martin retired from Home Aides of Central New York, after serving as the organization’s president for 23 years.

Senator DeFrancisco Promotes Sennett Taxpayers Rebate Program

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco joined other elected officials from Cayuga County for a press conference at the Sennett Town Hall on August 1, 2013.  The press conference was held to discuss the Sennett Taxpayers Rebate Program, which Governor Cuomo signed into law. Through the program, residents and business owners in the Town of Sennett will receive a $100 rebate check, as the result of a surplus in sales tax revenue.  Senator DeFrancisco was a co-sponsor of the legislation.

SENATOR DEFRANCISCO ANNOUNCES LOCAL LIBRARY GRANTS

On July 29, 2013, State Senator John A. DeFrancisco (R-I-C, Syracuse) joined Kate McCaffrey, representing Onondaga County public libraries, to announce the individual libraries in Onondaga County that will receive state mini-grants for cultural programming. Last year, Senator DeFrancisco secured $90,000 in state funds to be awarded to libraries in Onondaga County over two years.

Senator DeFrancisco Participates in Syracuse Challenger Baseball NBT Bank Stadium Night

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco helped cheer on members of the Syracuse Challengers baseball team during Syracuse Challenger Baseball NBT Bank Stadium Night. Syracuse Challengers is a District 8 Baseball League program for children with developmental and physical disabilities. More than 200 children participated in the event, which was held at NBT Bank Stadium on July 25, 2013.

SENATOR DEFRANCISCO PROMOTES LEGISLATION TO HELP MORE YOUNG PEOPLE SUCCEED IN SCHOOL AND THE WORKPLACE

Assemblymember Sam Roberts held a press conference on July 26, 2013, with Senator John A. DeFrancisco to urge the Governor to sign into law a bill they authored to reduce the number of part-time hours needed to qualify for the NY Youth Works program (A.7928-A/S.4762-A). The press conference was held at Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection, a nationally recognized Syracuse City youth development and dropout prevention program that helps students stay in school and successfully graduate high school ready for post-secondary education and employment.

Senator DeFrancisco Celebrates the 15th Anniversary of the Cycling the Erie Canal Bike Tour

On July 10, 2013, State Senator John A. DeFrancisco helped mark the 15th anniversary of the Cycling the Erie Canal bike tour, by presenting a legislative resolution to organizers during a half-way point celebration at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse.  Hundreds of bicycle riders from across the country participate in Cycling the Erie Canal, which began in Buffalo and will end in Albany on July 14th.

On June 26, 2013, State Senator John A. DeFrancisco joined New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman for a press conference on Marcellus Street in Syracuse to announce a plan that would give $20 million to community land banks, so cities can turn vacant properties over to new owners.

SENATE GIVES FINAL PASSAGE TO BILL TO PROTECT OPWDD FROM FUNDING CUTS

The New York State Senate today gave final passage to legislation (S4777D), sponsored by Senator Martin Golden (R-C, Brooklyn), that would protect providers of services for the developmentally disabled from state funding cuts.The legislation would appropriate up to $90 million, or as much as is needed, to the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) to protect providers from funding reductions if recommended savings measures
